2023 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x Golf Ball Reviews

Great feel on 388.. I found it not as hot off club face on running chips. Distance feel very good in relation to previous versions. I'm all in on it.

I was finally able to test the 348 and 388 prototype balls the past two weekends. The feel of both balls was softer off the putter and were very similar around the greens. Both I felt were better than the current versions of ProV1 and ProV1x golf balls. The 348 seem to give me a bit more distance off the tee and approach shots, 2 to 5 yards. The 348 was also a little straighter than the 388. Both are great balls and performed better than current models overall. I look forward to playing the new ProV1x when they are generally available.

I tested both balls on several rounds, each time having a 2022 version of the same model in my pocket for comparison. When I hit a solid drive or iron shot, I would hit the same shot with the older ball for comparison purposes. I haven't had time to bring these to the simulator, and wonder if I would be able to see the difference without hitting many dozens of shots with each. In any case, I found the Pro V1 prototype to have nice feel and response, and perhaps a slightly higher bar fight with irons and the driver, which I like. I definitely did not lose distance, and think I gained a few yards. The Pro V1 X prototype flew even higher, with the same distance as the Pro V1 prototype, so it is my ball of choice. It's fall here, and the greens are cold and thus harder and fast, but there certainly was no loss of response in terms of feel, spin, and sound with either model. I have several balls left, and I plan to take those to the simulator soon. I'm grateful for the opportunity to test these.

I have played both the 348 and 388 protos. The 348 flies higher with more spin. It goes a couple of yards longer than the current ProV1x. Around the green, it seems to be softer and reacts better than the current ProV1x. It is stable in the wind and comes off the putter very well. Also, I noticed when hitting wedges the ball will not shear. The 388 flies lower for me and really bores thru the wind. I can flight it down a little easier than 348. It feels a hair firmer than 348, but it does stop with wedges and still feels good off the putter. I did try the 2 balls on a very windy day (30 mph and higher) and both balls were great in the wind. If you hit them solid the ball went the way you intended in the wind. They also went fairly well in the cold temps. They are very durable. Titleist has hit another home run with the 2023 ProV1 balls. I am waiting for my TSr 2 driver to come in and really hit some bombs. Keep up the great research and development. You are way ahead of your competitors. Thx for giving me a chance to try these balls out.

I was finally able to test the 348 and 388 prototype balls. The 348 - ProV1x has a great feel on every club, distances were pretty consistent across all clubs. I was able to see a bit more spin on the driver and longer irons in regard to being offline. The ball goes higher and seems softer, but not too soft. The 348 spun a lot around the greens and with most wedges. The 388 - ProV1, again great feel through all clubs and I really like the feel off the wedges and putter. The ball flight was a little lower and really good into the wind. The ball seemed softer than previous models, but the core seemed more active. Both I felt were better than the current versions of ProV1 and ProV1x golf balls. The 348 seemed to give me a bit more distance off the tee iron shots and approach shots. Spin can be your friend in some instances. Both balls are ahead of the curve and way ahead of the competition. Its cold up here in CT this time of year but the 388 still flew miles. I liked the improved feel with my wedges. The 348 was a bit different. My wedges showed less spin. Thanks for letting me try them out!

Ball Feel 348 ball has a harder feel when hit flush and the 388 has a softer feel when hit flush. I found that the 348 went further on my drives and both were very similar in control. putting was very different in feel and sound 388 had a softer feel and sound and the 348 was louder off the putter face and had a harder feel. I played 2 rounds with each ball front 9 with the 348 and back 9 with the 388 shot 79 then the next day 388 front 9 and 348 on the back 9 shot a 78. I could play either ball but prefer the 388 ball.

I was out of town when the Protos arrived, so just got a chance to test them the last few days. I tested both Protos against their current counterparts around the green: pitches, chips and putts. I found the 388 Proto to be very similar to the current ProV1 in feel (maybe ever so slightly softer) and spin characteristics. Same great stopping power and consistency. I was very pleasantly surprised, however, with the softer feel of the new 348 Proto compared to the current ProV1 ball. Same excellent spin and control around the greens, but with a softer feel off the wedge and putter face which I love. Played full rounds with the 348 Proto and found it to have the same high ball flight I prefer with the ProV1x and great stopping power on full approach shots into the green. I got excellent distance off the driver and long irons in launch windows very comparable to what I am used to seeing. The 348 Proto may be a bit longer, but may just be related to the hot Florida weather I’m playing in. Distance control and consistency was exceptional. The biggest factor for me is the softer feel of the new 348 Proto. I’ve always preferred the softer feel of the ProV1 over the ProV1x, but have been willing to forgo that soft feel for the higher flight/higher spin of the ProV1x. Now I will no longer have to choose that trade-off. I love the new ProV1x and am excited to put it in play as soon as it becomes available!

Tested both the 348 and 388 balls over 36 holes this past weekend, comparing them to each other and my usual ProV1x left dash. I'm usually in the mid-90s.

The 348s were about 5 yard shorter than my usual ball. Felt a touch softer than usual, ball flight was as usual.

The 388s felt fantastic off the tee, around the green, and on the green. Distance was typical. Of note, I had the back nine of my life with these balls (40, with six pars and a birdie.)

Couldn't get a putt of any significant distance to drop with any of the balls. But that's my Achilles heel of my game anyway.

Overall, I feel like the 388s are an improvement over the established ProV1, and the 348 is a step back or on par with the existing ProV1x.

I have played and practiced with the 388 and 348 extensively since I received them. I loved all aspects of the 388 in regards to spin, feel, and trajectory. I found the 348 cover to be a little harder than the 388 in regards to putting. At 65 my clubhead speed may not be in the range to get the optimum benefit from the 348, but I would play the 348 in regards to the reasons I mentioned earlier. To Be honest, I have been playing the AVX for the last couple of years, and will probably continue to play it, until I lose the prototypes. Thanks again for the golf balls, when I saw them it felt like Christmas, and then I bragged to all my buddies that I was on "Team Titleist"!

I played two rounds with the balls and am super happy with the performance. Preferred the feel of the 388 off the club face and putter. Both balls were great! I prefer the 388, but would play with either ball.
FYI- My regular is ProV1 and I believe 388 is same.

I had the privilege to test these new prototypes and was very impressed. Please consider that I am a retired Orthopedic Surgeon and a 12 hdcp player. The ProV1 was a lot like my previous ProV1s in that it had a great
job with distance off the tee. Might be a little longer with the mid-irons and kept that great spin around the greens.
The ProV1X felt a little harder to me. It certainly flew lower on a more piercing trajectory, but I hit my shots lower anyway due to living in Texas. I don't have the clubhead speed to appreciate the ProV1X and instead prefer the softer feel of the ProV1. But the consistency of feel, distance, and spin are what have, and will continue to insist on Titleist! Thanks.

Thanks for sending me the test proto balls. I have been an avid Pro V1 player for years. I did like that the 388 model was a bit softer and got a little more spin than the previous Pro V1x. But I loved the 348 model. For me is was soft and I did get more distance than my previous year Pro V1.

I thought the 388 had an excellent feel & sound compared to the 348. The 388 spin rate off the driver was less and for me it went further each time. The sound was more traditional for me on the 388. I would play the 388 way before playing the 348.

I was fortunate enough to receive a box for testing several weeks ago. Unfortunately I’ve been out since the beginning of July due to knee surgery, and just got cleared to swing a club last week! Boy does it feel good to get back at at after a disappointing summer. Indoor GCQuad data at the range with their house Titleist balls at least looks good for getting my swing back.

Hoping to get a couple rounds here in Chicago before the end of the year if the weather cooperates and test these out. It’ll be different conditions, but a good test nonetheless. Will post a review if/when I can. Appreciate the opportunity.

Thank you for including me in on the new golf ball testing program. I got to play 4 rounds with the new balls, 2 with the Pro V, and 2 with the Pro v X...both balls reacted very nicely, some increase off of the tee, and better spin control on my irons shots, especially with my wedges. Short game reaction was very nice, the ball came off the putter face very smoothly, also, great spin on a few bunker shots...Maybe it is my age, but, are these new balls brighter colored, maybe, it is my eyes, but, they sure looked really nice sitting on the tee, and, on the fairways, Stay healthy, drive safely. CGG...

I normally play prov1 i tested the 388 i thought it went farther felt softer to me,
held the greens nicely. the only thing i noticed to me anyway i didn't think they putted all that well
for me it felt like one time the ball came off the face hot and other times it felt kinda dead off the face.
the 348 is longer than the prov1x i like that good feel around the greens putting for me was about the
same as a prov1x,I really appreciate the opportunity to test these balls for titleist and look forward
to do more in the future thank you.

Hats off to Titleist yet again. Still the best ball in golf and only gets better.

My gamer is a prov1 and it did not disappoint. Both balls performed exactly as expected. 388 had lower than previous generation driver spin. Feel is sensational. Distance is on par for me from previous model ( which is always fantastic) free side spin was perfect and the feel

It was awesome being able to test the new balls. Especially after being invited to and testing the new tsar drivers. The combination with the new tar driver in my bag and the test balls was awesome and fun. Both balls felt soft off the face which I liked. However the sound was quiet. Not the snap from a prov1 x that I was used to from the 348 or 388. So although I thought I miss hit the ball, the distance was amazing. Even my normal missed produced a much improved distance. Both balls reacted around the green as expected and I liked the softer feel from the putter. Thank you for letting me be part of the testing!
