    Mr. Vokey,

After the amazing success of the SM7, what was the your main focus of improvement and/or design inspiration for the SM8.

Second question if there is time. How important is the correct shaft during the fitting process for wedges? It seems like the shaft options available for wedges have increased significantly over the last few years when a short time ago, a standard steel shaft was the status quo.

Talk about a hot start. SM8 has been the worst kept secret with record-setting adoption on the PGA TOUR, European Tour, and Korn Ferry. In its first 12 TOUR events, SM8 has already brought home 7 titles. 48% of the wedges at this week’s Bay Hill Invitational are Vokey Design and last week 57% of wedges in play at the Honda Classic were Vokey, including the winner: Sungjae Im.

So what exactly is this secret sauce that has SM8 making so much noise on tours? For starters, you can find a lot of great SM8 insights on the Vokey website. But what better way to learn about SM8 than asking the man himself?

Bob I can't seem to hit a half shot. I seem to let off and not swing as hard.
    Help please
  3. Hi Bob,

Hope all is well. As someone who is playing the SM7s, what is the biggest difference in the SM8s? Thank you for your time!

Last year I got fitted for AP3 irons recommending (shafts 1” long and 2 degrees upright). I had already purchased my set of SM7 wedges (with lofts / grinds that I love) so I had them extended 1” and now they feel much heavier. If I upgrade to SM8 wedges should I order them 1” long? Is a wedge fitting (length) much different from irons?

So had always used Cleveland wedges, until the SM8...love the look and feel, plus I also upgraded my irons to AP2’s so with my pitching wedge at 46, I went with SM8 50F, 54D and 58D. My gapping is great, I wonder now if I possibly should of gone with a different grind in my 54 to be a little more versatile? I’d say In a full swing I’m little more steeper vs a sweeper. And around the greens and bunkers I open the face to chip. Thanks John
  6. Mr Vokey,

I am a 16 handicap player and currently use a Vokey SM4 56-11 wedge. Getting better with it out of sand bunkers and occasionally a good flop shot from around greens. Would a different loft or newer model make it easier to pull off these shots?

    Thank you,
    John J

    Hi Mr. Vokey,
What are the pros saying they like best about the new SM8?
Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question.

I was wondering a couple of things about my wedge shots. First question is when I have gone to demo days and ball fittings by Titleist and other manufacturers I am told I hit my wedges (56,60 and 64 degree) further than they would expect fora 13 handicap or for any golfer for that matter. Most concur I must be de lofting the club at impact for this to happen, wondering if you agree with this?
Second question, on these same clubs my spin is typically sideways to the left as opposed to straight back like you see on TV, any thoughts on what might be causing this?
    Thanks for your time
  10. Hey Bob! Love the new SM8 wedges and got fit for them just last week. Can’t wait to put them in the bag and dominate on the course.

My question is, what are your thoughts on puring the shaft using the SSTPure Technology. Does it help your golf game or hinder it with the new SM8 wedges. What does it help? How does it help? Do you pure your own clubs? Thanks Bob!!

  11. How much bounce do you recommend for wedges when playing course with lots of firm turf, tight lie conditions that we get in Florida

    Mr. Vokey,

Hello, I would like to replace my current Titleist wedges. In your opinion what wedges would be the most important ones in your bag?

    Thank you in advance!

    Best regards,

  13. Dear Bob,
How much has changed in the last 20 years with wedge refinement? How has your thought process on wedge building grown in the last 20 years??
    Thanks

When seeking a 55 degree wedge, is it preferable to weaken a 54 or strengthen a 56?

    Thanks

I’m trying to find out the same answer. I have a 50 gap and a 60 lob. Looking to split the difference for my sand wedge.

I will replace my current SM 6s and 7s with new 8s -- 52, 56 and 60. I play in a variety of turf conditions, from Hawaii to Arizona to Ohio.

What bounce angles would you recommend for each of my replacements?

    Thanks,

    Jim
  17. When designing your wedges how did you know what grind was right for each wedge? Also, what is the story behind the lettering of each grind and do you still tweak with the grinds or are they set in stone? Thank you for all what you do for the game of golf.
  18. What's the best way to determine the proper wedge set up including bounce, loft, lie, length?

Grass in our area is very heavy and thick, what type of grind is needed for these types of short pitches and 50 to 70 yd. shorts Thanks Bill Cunningham
  21. Bob,

What is the average high performance life of the face of the wedge - Playing 26 rounds a year and hitting balls weekly. Swing speed is 95 mph with a driver. The spin seems so important and did not know how fast it is diminished over use. Thanks.
