Your Greatest Shot excluding Hole in Ones

Playing the final hole at Lockwood Folly CC, my tee shot drew far left into the high thickets (massively did not want to get wet on the right-side pond). Leaving a good 240+ lie. Smashed 5 wood to the edge of the green and rolled the put in (right back corner, near the pool retaining wall) from about 84 feet for Eagle (witnessed). I received an applause and a "Thumbs up".

I have never had a hole in one or an eagle. The closeest I ever got was bouncing a three wood off the pin so hard it left paint on the ball.

Casual round at Meadow Valleys Course (Kohler, WI). The 14th is a 423 yd Par4 that doglegs to the right descending to a peninsula green roughly 50-60 feet below the level of the landing area. Opted for my 19* Hybrid off the tee but managed to hit it too well and ran through the fairway into the tree-shaded rough......STYMIED. With no clear look at the green, I decided to keep the ball in play and attempt to advance down the fairway with a low running draw and have a chance at an up and in par. Executed the shot the way I had planned and from the immediate reaction of my playing partners was pleasantly pleased to find that I had been left with a 3-foot putt for birdie. Made the putt but will never forget the feeling of visualizing and executing on a low percentage approach shot (7i from 165ish).

Playing in the regional high school golf tournament against J.B. Holmes. Pulled my second shot on a par 4 up against a rock on the bank of pond that was on the far side of the green. It was about a 30 yard shot over the pond to hit the green. Opened up my sand wedge and hit the ball. Obviously the club stopped immediately after I hit it against the rock. Ball landed and stopped 2 inches from the hole to save par. Chipped the crap out of my sand wedge. Oh and didn't come close to beating J.B. Holmes.

The one that sticks in my mind, even over a decade later, is the almost albatross on my home course's twelfth hole, a par 5. Playing from the member's tees, about 475 yds if I am correct, I laced a drive over the bunker on the corner of the dogleg left and had about 170 yds remaining to a front right pin. My second shot, a 4 iron (before I converted to hybrids), landed short and ran up to about one half inch short of the cup. Easy tap-in eagle, but oh, what might have been.

After a rather abysmal drive with a left to right wind on the 18th hole at Erin Hills, my tee shot ended up near the forward tee box on the 7th hole. I was fortunate enough to catch a bit of a flyer lie on top of some fescue but the wind was now more into me than it was across and the dogleg left meant that I would need to play the shot well left of the green if I wanted to have a chance at saving par. I pulled my 3-wood ready to swing for the fences just as my caddie chimed in to politely remind me that I was in fact NOT Justin Thomas, this was NOT Sunday at The US Open and suggested I take a shorter club, get it in the fairway and have a decent shot in to save par. But I didn’t come all the way to Erin Hills to lay-up and they make new balls everyday so I decided to be a hero. Well, 280 yards of that 3-wood later I landed just short of the green, had a nice bump and run to a back pin placement and 3 putts later I was in for bogey which humbly reminded me that just because one shot went well, doesn’t mean the other 5 did but damn it if that well struck 3-wood isn’t the best feeling in the world. That shot at Erin Hills was my favorite of 2024! Can’t wait for 2025!

I just had an Albatross on 10/22/24 at Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive, Mi on the 7th hole. It’s a par 5 530 yard hole. I was 232 yards out and hit my TSR 2 3 wood with my Pro V1x ball. After looking around for my ball we decided to look in the hole and there it was.
