TSI-3 Fairway wood cracked

I just got a brand new TSi3. Used it today for the first time. Hit 15 balls or so on the range. Absolutely loved it. Moved on other clubs for while. Came back to it with the last few balls... hit one more and the face cracked.

Never seen anything like it.

Hopefully Titleist warranty replacement will be fast...

Yes actually today. I brought a brand new Tsi2 3 wood.. had my shaft put in it... hadn’t hit it before this morning. Hit 6 balls on the range and the 6th sounded funny.. my buddy watching me said that sounded strange .. I said yea I think it cracked .. sure enough.. right in the middle from the speed slot up the middle of face.. super bummed. My 917 3 wood cracked as well but that was after 2 years. I play at a private course so the range balls a nice. They had a titleist fittest there today too and I asked the Titleist rep if he could replace it and he said he couldn’t. I’ve got to send it in.

Well, Ive been using the demo I got until my replacement arrives, seems like its taking a really long time, but I havent had any problems since with this one. I actually will probably just keep this one. I must say, I really am starting to love this 3w.

I have had 2 TSi3 15* heads crack now... both in the exact same spot (from the sole to the face on the toe area). One had probably 75 swings on it Titleist warrantied it. The second had no more than 35 swings and is being warrantied again... Hopefully 3rd times a charm.

My TSi 3-wood cracked yesterday. Hitting balls and trying out different shafts. Cracked just above middle of the face on the crown. My club is sending it back to Titleist for warranty, I'm going to assume it will be replaced.

Same deal with me. Titleist said to send back the damaged head (TSi2 fairway) and as soon as they receive will ship out a new replacement head. Have been waiting 3 weeks!! How long before you received your new head??

For anyone doubting staying with Titleist after a cracked face, all I can say is it happens, it is rare, but it happens. It is also just as common or likely to happen with any other brand.

I have cracked two TSi3 15* heads this year, same spot on both. Like others, toe side of center, from the ARC up the face about a quarter inch. Both were during morning range sessions prior to playing. Thankfully my golf shop where I ordered the original has replaced it both times now, but if the third one cracks I’m going back to a TS3 or a different brand.

Wow. These stories are horrible. I was just about to make an appt. to get fitted for the new line of metals. I think I'll pass.

While this thread does appear alarming, please trust our fairways are industry-leading in terms of durability. In a rare case this issue does occur, it will be replaced.

There also seems to be a trend in these rare exceptions often being referred to as happening during warm ups. Maybe the range balls or maybe the downward impact on mats with concrete below are contributing factors. I find it interesting that most of us, and even the majority of tour pros can play these clubs with significant rounds of golf and not experience a single crack yet some individuals have said they have had multiple cracks themselves. Seems to point towards some contributing factors other than design or product quality. My thoughts anyway...

I agree, I think it’s the rock hard cheap-o range balls and thin mats at my local muni, plus colder weather. The first time this winter it was low 30s F; when the second head cracked it was in the upper 40s.

All in all, I love the TSi and TS line up and down. And I love how Titleist customer service and my local golf shop have replaced the broken ones.

I felt bed joining here and making my first post one of negative feedback. But I felt my experience was worth sharing when I saw others having similar concerns. I’m going to stop using it for warm up, and maybe move to someplace warmer too! :)

I definitely agree with what you're saying. I know if I always struck the sweet spot this would probably not happen. However, this sort of thing never happened with older equipment. I still use a 910F 5W to this day. My swing is much better now than it was ten years ago, yet I've cracked 3 Sim drivers and now 3 TS-I 3woods, all around the same spot where the speed pocket/ARC is at the bottom of the face. I know its because of a low strike on the face, but the thing is I can do that all day with my older 3wood and drivers and not break them. I can understand a head breaking if I'm terrible, and striking the ball all over the place, but I would not expect these things to happen just because my strike is a few millimeters low on the face. Since I've switched to the SIM 2 driver, it has held up with no issues, which makes me think my problems with the old SIM might be because of an issue with the durability. I'm not trying to knock any product or manufacturer, but I'm certain that new equipment these days is just not as durable as they were in the past.

I just bought a custom TSi4 about 2 weeks ago. I played with it for the 2nd time on Saturday and it broke on the top of the crown on the range before playing... It was over $900 with the Fuji Atmos 70X shaft. I took it back to the shop I got it from in Del Mar and they are sending it back to Titleist, now I don't have a driver for a while. Also, my 620 mb irons are going on 3-months w/o showing up.......

So a brief update on my situation. Its been about a year since I bought the TS-I 3 fairway wood. The demo that I got from my local shop to use as a replacement while I waited for my new head to arrive also cracked on the bottom, the same place as the first crack. When I got my replacement from Titleist, I used it for about 6 months and a few weeks ago it also cracked in the same exact place. Like some other people have said, hitting range balls probably plays a big role in the heads cracking. I live in Thailand so the weather is always warm, so cold weather is not an issue. But the downside is golf equipment here is much more expensive than in the USA. So a 3 wood that retails for 300 usd in America will cost about 400 usd here in Thailand. So my complaint is that if I spend that much money on a golf club, I would expect to have a warranty a bit longer than 1 year. I really wish Titleist would do a 2 year warranty because it seems new equipment these days just doesnt last as long and is more prone to breaking.

I just got a new tsi2 3 wood 15 degree for Christmas. First day at the driving range to try it out yesterday and the head cracked (exploded) from the top of the club face across the top of the club head.

Having read through the previous comments, it would seem apparent that these new tsi clubs are not suitable for hitting range balls (and definitely not in the cold).

I’ve also got a TS3 driver which I’ve used at the same range for a year and during winter with absolutely no issues.

Incredibly expensive clubs - I’m hoping I’ll get a replacement. Wether I keep the replacement or sell it for another brand I haven’t decided. The thought of having this disaster repeating itself at any moment, possibly outside warranty is a very expensive risk I’m not sure I can afford to take..

Incredibly disappointing from my favourite golf brand (my bag is Titleist AP2 irons, Titleist vokey wedges and a Titleist ts3 driver).

Just broke the bottom rail and faceplate on a TSI2 Fairway wood. Bought it in February and it had very little range time working with the hosel settings. Bottom insert flew twice on the front nine and the faceplate totally cracked open on the back nine. Was sent back to Titleist 2 1/2 weeks ago and have heard nothing. Very disappointed with them right now. Played Titleist woods for years, will be looking at other products now.

I've now had a TSI3 15* fairway wood crack twice in the same spot; right about the top groove on the face. Hoping the warranty will cover it again. Honestly, I'm debating whether I'll stick with this line at this point. I know the 1 year warranty is up soon and, if the trends continues, the face will crack again. I don't have the money, nor patience, to replace it if it happens again outside of the warranty coverage. A bit disappointing because I've always wanted Titleist woods, but the experience hasn't been great.

Thinner face for more speed does mean greater chance of off-center strikes causing these problems. Add hard range balls and cold temperatures and it could happen. I do find it statistically interesting that many people never have issues and a few people have posted that they have had the problem multiple times. Is it the product or the way they are being hit? Either way, sorry it has happened to you.

This is why I never hit range balls with a 3 wood off the ground unless it's on grass. I don't take the chance bouncing into the hard concrete slab of a mat. I have yet to ever crack a Titleist wood & I've been playing them for over 25 years. Grant it, I don't swing that hard like some of you, but still

Just cracked my tsi2 3 wood pga superstore said they’ll take a look at it cuz that’s where I purchased had it less than a year extremely disappointed better replace it

Titleist has a full 1 year warranty for anything besides obvious abuse. The PGA store should be ordering a return to Titleist for them to inspect it.

I don’t deal with retailers as the person on duty may be clueless. Never had an issue with a pro shop.

I rarely use my 3 wood so I decided to practice with it tonight and the clubs been hit maybe 100 times and the face absolutely imploded with a massive crack on the top of the head. I looked down after hearing a weird sound from impact and was speechless.

When it comes to performance, it’s tough to beat Titleist. When it comes to durability however, I’ve played better. I’ve always loved the way the Titleist fairway woods hit but there’s a big problem. They crack. And I know it’s not just me because I’ve known plenty of others who face the same problem. If we were all your pros then this wouldn’t be a problem. The heads they get are way different from the retail heads. And I get it, sometimes things happen but this isn’t a rare case anymore like Titleist has claimed. I broke 2 of the 917 3+ wood heads. It didn’t happen right away but they definitely gave at some point probably from pounding rock hard range balls. Unfortunately these clubs were to old and no longer covered by titleist warranty. So I upgraded to the tsi3 and with the thinner face technology. It cracked I. The first month. All cracks happened off of a purely hit shot of the middle of the sweet spot. There is definitely a swing speed barrier that can crack these clubs even if you aren’t doing anything wrong. Through the warranty and all, the cracked heads have become more of a headache than anything. First of all the warranty only covers brand new clubs so if you have a club that’s been sitting around for more than a year, and you happen to break it, you have to eat it. And what if a club were to break during a tournament. We don’t have tour vans running out to us with a new head. With all do respect, I cannot use these fairway woods anymore. It’s too risky. So I really hope they get this problem under control because if it was t for this. Titleist hands down best fairway woods.

I've had my TS3 driver and 3wood break in the same year. Both the faces caved. I called Titleist and they wouldn't warranty or help with either. I struggle to afford golf as it is. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to afford to buy Titleist any longer

One of the realities of modern equipment is the faces are thinner and the heads have more composite components. All in the name of getting another 1-3 yards over the last release. Doesn’t make any difference which OEM is supplying woods on tour. They all are more prone to cracking or flattening than 10 years ago. Metal bars and plastic faces even more so than the TRx series of woods. It’s a trade off if maximum distance is your objective.

Not saying this applies to any of the posters here, but a majority of the players I watch at the driving range take it literally. The most hit club? Driver. Least hit club, wedge. Hitting range ball rocks 30-50 times with driver out of a bucket of 80 can definitely shorten the life span of the woods compared to irons.

I remember that one OEM had 2 lines of woods - one for tour use only. Primarily to check for loft so a 9 degree loft wasn’t from 8-10 degrees. I haven’t seen evidence from touring the factory that Titleist does that. Besides, most of the pros rarely play the same driver beyond the 1 year warranty. All pros’ equipment is tested for core response and flattening so most are swapped before they actually crack. Did note Jordan had one crack a few weeks ago, but unlike my rounds, the Tour Van was there to get another one out.
