Lots of distance in the ball. Great spin around the greens. I have used the proVx version because I play the left dash version of the ball. Titleist is the best, bar done.

As a golf professional and avid player, I find both balls to be very good as always the black is as always soft feeling and very consistent when putting. The red for me is higher launching with the metals and mid irons with great drop and stop spin. Both balls are very durable. Love them.
  3. The balls performed as advertised. Just as you would expect from Titleist.
  4. I received my protos last week and was able to play the last 5 rounds with them.

Prov1: Longer, lower trajectory than previous Prov1. Excellent feel as always.

Prov1x: Little bit lower trajectory then previous Prov1x. Perfect for me. Great distance. Good feel and spin. Doesnt have the hard ball sound as last years model.

I'm a 62 yr old 8 hdcp that has lost alot of distance. Avg tee shot now is 220-ish. I hit a low ball and typically switch between Prov1 and Prov1x. With the 2 protos the Prov1 is too low of a trajectory for me but man its like a rocket off the tee with driver. I liked the trajectory of the Prov1x which I thought was lower than the previous Prov1x. This will be my go to ball next year.

Thanks Titleist for the constant improvement!!

I received my first set of White Boxes and boy oh boy was I excited and surprised. I immediately looked over the balls, I counted the dimples (j/k), I bounced them on carpet and hard wood, and I discovered the most amazing fact... they are still golf balls!

So I set out to the course to try them out. Warmed up at the range, felt I was ready to play my best golf ever. Went to the first tee, showed my Proto balls to my buddies, pulled a Proto 388 out of the bag and said "Boys, watch this one fly". A moment went by, and then the comments started to chirp... did that go past the forward tees? Where'd it go... Jay are you sure those are Titleist? I hung my head, accepted the poking and walked to my next shot. Hey, I had a fantastic lie! Pulled my TSR 3W out of the bag, lined up, and..... CRUSHED the living hell out of the shot. A perfect butter cut slightly left to right, impact was precise and at first felt a little tinny or firm. The ball rolled out and to my surprise was in perfect position. Walked up, checked distance, I had smashed my 3W 245 and was sitting just about 30 yds off the green. To my excitement, I was now able to hit a wedge. Pulled my 60 WW low bounce out of the bag, had about a 45 yd shot the pin, took aim, swung and hot damn it felt smooth and buttery and I felt like I could feel the ball on the grooves of the face of my wedge. Ball hit soft, checked once came to a stop 6 or 8 inches from the pin. Tap in for a routine par.

I found over all the ball performed as expected of a ProV1. It seemed firmer in feel, and to me felt like it helped with dispersion and keeping the ball on line. It essentially went where I wanted it to go and stopped when I wanted it to stop. I have to play more with them, to really get a true feel for the difference. I would say in a round or two of golf with 3 balls (I've lost one), hit trees, hit cart paths, hit out of dirt, hit from the fairway, the rough and the greens and tees. Its durability seems to be better than previous models, and the feel stays relatively the same throughout use.

Still a firmer cover and firmer feel, and in my opinion I'm not sure if I love it or hate it, or just not used to it yet.

One thing is for sure, it's a Titleist Golf Ball and it looks, feels and functions as expected (perhaps even better).

Just a humble amateur players opinion on an amazing product. Go Team Titleist!
  6. Finished my ball testing yesterday, I found the 388 to feel slightly more firm than the previous model as I started my testing on the green the ball seemed to be more lively off the putter, I also noticed that I seemed to gain 3 to 4 yards off the irons. I would say similar to a slight gain off the driver with a penetrating flight. Drop and stop on the greens is as good as the previous model. I tested both balls on a gc quad and found driver spin lower with the 388 and about 5 to 6 hundred revs higher with the 348 as expected. The 348 has a higher ball flight on all my shots and feels slightly more firm than the 388 again as expected. I picked up about 5 yards with the 348 and was pleasantly surprised how well both balls held the line playing in some very brisk winds. Feel of the 348 thought was very similar to the previous model and the drop and stop is very very good. I’m not sure how Titleist can improve the best balls in golf but they did, always a Titleist fan thank you for the experience.

I got to try out both the 348 Proto and 388 Proto. I really liked the 388 Proto. I like soft golf balls and go back and forth between Pro V1, AVX, and TP5. I had been playing the 2021 Pro V1 mostly as of late. I felt the 388 Proto is just a bit softer than the 2021 Pro V1 which I loved. I personally didn't notice any gain in distance and the 388 Proto checked up for me just as well as the 2021 Pro V1.

I tried playing the 348 Proto. This ball was too hard for me. I feel (felt) the same way with current and any previous Pro V1x so I don't play them. I don't have enough experience with the Pro V1x to give feedback on the 348 Proto.

Thank you Titleist. Love the 388 Proto.

I was able to play these balls in 48° and fortunately it did warm up to about 70 a few days later, the feel was amazing on both like some others have said, the pro V one seems to feel more improved to me, and I think I will be switching that from the acts which I’ve played for several years. The spin and work ability felt great & the launch into the wind was amazing. Didn’t feel much difference with sand shots, thank you Titleist for the opportunity, Look forward to other tests
  9. Loved the new pro Bch
I constantly gained 5 to 10 yards on all shots
And loved the soft feeling of the balls
Stopping the ball on greens was terrific lots of spin
Can’t wait to get more balls
  10. Really nice feel to both balls with the irons, stopped nicely on the green. Enjoyed the feel as it left the putter face.
Looking forward to playing the remaining balls in the spring with warmer air.

Just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to be part of the testing for the new prototype golf balls being evaluated by TT members and staff.

    The Proto 388:

Dimples feel a little more pronounced, and has
lower compression feel and not a firm strike off the club face. (It could be just a bit similar in feel of an AVX)

The cover has a feeling of more friction on the face when you rub the ball, (like the way a pitcher rubs a new ball) just felt different putting on the tee.

In the simulator, they was not a significant distance or spin dispersion.

It did have a lower launch angle than the ProV1

    Proto 348:

In the simulator, it had a less than five yard gain in yardage. I was hoping for a ten yard gain as it would make one less club for the second shot..

Spin was ok, and it held the green where I needed it to and in a one to two club wind it bored thru on target and impressed the the guys in my foursome. They each played a hole with both and found similar traits.

Around the green, both protos had less roll out than the branded ball.

Off the putter they both had a softer feel. (Personally like the firmer feel off the putter, but that's just my preference)

I have not yet compared them to a left dot or left dash ball. Not sure if I need too.

Thanks again, it is pleasure to be a Team Titleist Ambassador!!

I was fortunate enough to get both the Prov V1 and V1x. Titleist still puts out the best ball and these performed like the bets ball on the market.

They were both similar in flight to current models but didn’t seem to spin as much off the driver and irons (straighter shots) but spun more for me on the greens. Gained a few yards (2-4) as well. Overall the V1 fits my eye flight wise but the V1x I could see myself use at times.

I was surprised to find a white box on my porch after returning for the weekend. Only had a couple of days to try the proto’s as our course was closing for winter.

The amount of leaves falling and covering the fairway was challenging to not lose balls. The weather was cool and warmed up on the back nine were I tried both proto’s. The superintendent was watering the course prior to closure and this made for soft fairways and mud balls.

Both balls seemed to have less side spin and stayed in the fairways versus my 21 ProV1 that can end up in the rough. They held their line in the wind that gusted as the temperature increased.

  14. Tested 348. Normally play Pro V1X or cally ERC. I tested this during a round last week and found that I like the feel of the 348 best, by far. Good control and spin. And a little more distance that the ERC. Felt great off the putter. It seemed to me that the trajectory was a little higher that the Pro V1, but not much. I'll buy this ball when the 2023 comes out.

I played both this week. The 348 proto was a bit longer than the 388 proto and had a little higher apex with my irons. Around the greens, the 348 felt and sounded firmer which works really well on slower greens

Today I played 388 proto. With driver, it launched in slightly lower window than the 348, but was plenty long. Iron shots were marginally lower than those from 348, but spin was excellent. In fact, I had a hole in one today playing 388. I spun a 9 iron back into the hole from 146!
Around the greens, the 388 is softer feeling than the 348 and I had better control on the super fast greens I played today

As always, the New Pro V1 balls were both consistent. The Pro V1X had a distinctive click sound where the regular Pro V had a much duller sound off the driver, with its softer cover. They were both consistent and both spun well with the wedges. I think the Pro V1X was a little longer and very similar to the current model I play now.
  17. (3.7) handicap; (65) years of age; playing the Blue/Black Tees; Titleist TS1 Driver, 3/5/TS1 21°/24°; playing Titleist AVX since 2018. Playing Left-Handed Titleist 962s’ with Rifle Shafts; Titleist Vokey Wedges; Titleist Scotty Cameron Milled Pro Platinum Putter. ProV1 definitely the ball I would use of these two protos! Hitting from fairway bunker 145yds with a pitching wedge hit the green the ball mark was 5” from the flagstick and the ball rested 8” from the cup; for an easy sandy/birdie! Played the same ball for (2) rounds and it looked like a new ball after both rounds! Height from the fairway was better than expected and had more green marks from hitting from the fairway and landing on the green than I’ve seen in other ProV1s’! Standing over the ball, I felt confident that the ball would do what I wanted it to do; whether a fade or draw, bump and run with a 9-iron or flop shot with my 60° lob wedge. Definitely more birdies and birdie attempts each round with this ProV1! I mark my ball with blue sharpie and noticed how little the sharpie line and dots faded! The biggest difference for me was the feel when putting; the ball seemed heavy but solid with every putt. I especially noticed this when putting downhill and off the toe of the putter; very solid and kept the line of each putt! Confidence Builder standing over the Proto ProV1! Love my Titleist AVX, so ProV1 is 2nd choice!

The 388 proto had the same feel, short game spin and control as my ProV1, but did seem to have less long game spin and was slightly longer off the tee. I love the reduced long game spin and distance off the tee of the ProV1x, but it never spun enough for me around the greens. Not anymore! For me, the 348 Proto is the best version of the ProV1x to date!

  20. being an old guy (70)with my launch monitor days being far behind, my feel and how these balls respond hitting greens is my main gage. I use ProV1s routinely so the testing the black 1 felt familiar. it acted well with short as well as long irons when hitting greens. The proV1 was terrific for controlling chips and it was preferable over the
proV1x. one quality about both ProV1 and Prov1x is they feel the same in their 2nd and 3rd rounds which is major advantage to the competitive balls in proV1/x class
