2023 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x Golf Ball Reviews

Appreciate Titleist making me part of the White Box distribution. At this point I’ve only tested the 348 Proto. I’m very impressed how the ball performed in the heavy winds I’ve played in. Holds very steady. Distance has been great even though I’m now playing in cooler temperatures 40’s-60’s(Michigan). I like the soft feel relating to both putting and chipping. Excellent spin. I’m sold on the 348 Proto at this point!

I have been through one round of testing with both boxes sent to me. I will start with Proto 388 which I felt was the new PRO V1 ball. I want to start by saying the PRO V1 is my ball. I felt this ball had the same feeling coming off the club whether it was the driver, iron, chipping or putter. I did my testing by playing all 3 balls against a current PRO V1. Here are my findings, I found the ball had the same flight characteristics as the current model. The ball on average out drove the current ball 3-5 yards farther off the driver. On the irons the ball did not seem to have any noticeable gains in distance. It did on a number of shots have more bite on the green. this was noted by wedges and my 7,8, and 9 irons. it had the same soft feel off the putter. I will post more findings as I continue to play the ball.

Here my findings for Proto 348. This ball I felt was the PRO V1X replacement. I have played the X on a number of occasions just to try it. I felt this ball had the same type of feeling off the club as the current X model, which I find to be a little firmer then the PRO V1. T, and previous observations of the x model. The flight characteristics were the same, a higher flight then the PRO V1. I felt the ball distances were in line with the PRO V1, off the driver and irons. As far as green stopping power it seemed good. Chipping and Putting were both good. The next time I test them I will buy a sleeve of current X model to compare to.

I got an unexpected chance to get out and play! Both balls were great, but loved the ball fight of the 438s which produced 5-7 additional yds off the driver than my current ball(Velocity). And, it’s in the mid 60’s here in CT.

Might be just me but they both felt a bit softer all around. Both held approach shots very well…I liked the feel of the 438s a bit more off the face of my Scotty Laguna, especially on putts over 10’…all in all; if you’re looking to add distance and feel…the investment in Prov1x will pay immediate dividends .

I tested the prototype ProV1 and ProV1x on two different days. The first was a field test using one prototype ball for each none holes. I assumed that the ball with the red numbers was the ProV1x prototype and the one with the black numbers was the ProV1.

I used the ProV1 on the front nine on a cool morning and found that I did no lose much distance with each shot. The performance around the green was impressive being able to throw the ball at the flag and get one hop then checking up to give me an easy par putt. Mid irons were crisp and they too held the greens. The trajectory was about normal as I hit my irons with a mid to high ball flight. The ball was responsive whether I was trying to draw or fad my shots. Putting with the ball on fast greens rolled true and the feel off the putter head was very good. After nine holes the ball was in good shape and will be used in future rounds.

I used the ProV1x on the back nine as the late morning and early afternoon warmed up. This was the ball I once used but moved to the Bridgestones as the covers were easily cut with my wedges. This prototype did not cut in spite of using new SM9 Vokey wedges. It performed well off the driver and irons imparting enough spin on long iron shots to hold the greens with no difficulty. Wedge shots were easy to spin keeping control of shots around the greens to minimize lost strokes. Putting was true and the feel off the putter again felt great.

For both prototypes the distance I was able to achieve with my woods and irons was the same or better than with my Bridgestone balls. The second test was a side by side comparison with my Bridgestone ball. I hit five shots with each ball using these clubs; driver, six iron and gap wedge using a Trackman monitor at my local golf shop. The spin rates off the driver were lower from the Titleist golf balls. The distances were an average of five yards longer and the spin rates from the gap wedge were higher with the Titleist balls. Overall the improvements made with both balls were impressive from the last time I played them. Will have to consider them the next time I purchase golf balls.

I have played with the Pro V1 proto twice. I like the feel of the ball on and around the greens. Also, thought that the ball held its white color better than previous versions. Lastly didn't notice any any additional distance.

The ProV1 had great distance off the tee. The ProV1X performed better on the green with more spin. Both balls had good ball flight whether hitting a draw or fade. I prefer the ProV1X for my game and ability.

Good launch off the tee; nice feel around the greens. Loved them both!

I preferred the feel of the 348 ball. Distance was very close, but the 388 ball had a slight edge. Control around the green was equal with both balls. For me, the feel of the 348 ball makes it my choice.

I only got to try the prov1x,proven, liked the distance off the tee.i found the ball very solid with short irons and wedges checked up quicker for me than the last proven. Ithink it would fit my game pretty well with more time,I'm in the north east,season closing down soon.thank you for giving me the opportunity to try and test nice ball.

The Pro V1x has a lower ball flight and feels firmer to me. I prefer the Pro V1 for over all feel and playability. It has a softer fell which I like and it preforms well around the green. Also appears to be longer off the tee.

I FOUND BOTH BALLS TO BE EXCELLENT IN DISTANCE AND FEEL. SINCE I HAVE A NEW TOTALLY REPLACED SHOULDER, MY GAME HAS SUFFERED AND I TRULY CANNOT TELL MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO BALLS. A TITANIUM DRIVER IS TERRIFIC , BUT A TITANIUM SHOULDER STINKS, AND DOES NOTHING TO IMPROVE ONES GOLF GAME. IT IS BETTER THAN NOT PLAYING AT ALL, AND THAT'S THE BEST I CAN SAY. KEEP THE PARTS GOD GAVE YOU EVEN IF THEY HURT.

I’ve had three hip replacements and you pick up bad habits before and after while recovering. Finally getting it back, just takes time…

Tested the new ProV1x. I think it maybe better into the wind and I think the cover may be more durable. Pretty sure it will be my new ball. Testing the Prov1 this weekend.

Pro V1x feels faster off the club face and great distance

Both balls tested gave great feel and exceptional results. Titlelist never fails to deliver. Played balls from both sleeves on my birthday and was a great present to have played my best round for the year. On the course I played my second shot over water to the green on a par 5 ,which never attempted before , and made it and the putt for eagle. I’m 61 and played the whites while buddies played the forward tees. Got bragging rights. GO TITLELIST

I liked the feel of of the Pro v1, the x felt hard- could be due to playing in cold temperature (40 degrees). The distance was a bit longer with the Pro V1. Performed better on my short game than previous model. Plan to switch as soon as they are available.

I found that the pro V 1 play ability was great, maybe a little longer than last years ProV1
The Pro V1x was great as well with a very good spin rate, stoped good on the greens.
I compared both Prov balls with other brands and they out preform the other brands

These new balls performed as expected. Plus, they feel great off the face of the club. Being a feel player I truly appreciate the feeling of the ball compressing on the face of the club. Actually makes me feel like I’m controlling the ball flight with my hands.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be one of the first amateurs in the world to have received both the new Pro V1 and pro v1x 2023 Prototypes!!

I found the feel to be most excellent! as I much prefer these 2023 because t both seem slightly softer and especially on the pro v1x being much less clicky than the previous version.

Distance was good on par with the previous Pro v1x and I picked up a little bit of distance with the Pro V1 2023 prototype. The pro v1x flooded lower than the Pro V1.

Spin is where I noticed a difference primarily! I solely base what ball I play on Spin and greenside control primarily. Speaking to this fact, I have an excellent short game with my wedges and I'm a pretty decent putter who's handicap has never exceeded five in the past two decades. I attribute 95% of that to my short game wedges. Of course they are all vokey and have been since 2002.

Which leads me back to my point on spin. I'll start with the good. I found the 2023 pro v1X Proto to have great spin and greenside control from 50 yards and in. The Titleist Pro V1 golf balls we know are the best in the game and always have great greenside control but speaking on the pro v1X 2023, I think it's an improvement on the previous version and it had most excellent short game greenside Spin. I can work with that control all day long! The previous versions were great as well but this year's I picked up a little more green side control with the pro v1x that is. It is also a bit firmer then the pro v1 but I find it less quickie then previous version. That's a positive.

Let's face it I don't know any golfer out there who doesn't want to hit longer drives and spin the ball more chipping. The white box 2023 Pro V1 for me was a disappointment in this category. As I mentioned above earlier I have incredibly sensitive short game control and can easily tell exactly how much spin I should be putting on my chip shots and what balls are worthy. There are only two balls made in the game of golf that are worthy- The Pro V1/ pro v1x and Tiger Woods ball which he's worked his whole life to develop the tour BXS.

Those are the only two balls I will play even if you gave me a lifetime supply of another brand there is no other ball out there it gives you the control a titleist Pro V1 and Tour bxs by another brand will give you.

With that said as good as the pro v1x was with green side control the Pro V1 2023 white box was a let down as all my chips were running out three, four, five, sometimes more feet further then I'm used to. At first I thought it might be me because it was so unlike any other Pro V1 for lack of short game control but I quickly figured out it was the ball it just didn't check up the way a Pro V1 should shorter chip shots. This was very unusual and happened with fresh grooves on a Vokey SM9 wedge with only two rounds. All other aspects were great except this which I base my decision on. For that very reason I will be playing the pro v1x instead.

As for control of course Titleist was on the money again control is as good as it gets with the long irons all the way down to your scoring clubs title is hit another home run which is why so many tour players choose these balls. Nothing more to say on that except the pro v1x is a lower more penetrating ball flight and a bit firmer.

In conclusion I will be playing the pro v1x this year because it checks all the boxes and has the most green side control. I found both balls to feel very good and less clicky than their previous versions from 2021. The Prototype number 388 Pro V1 lacked the green side control I'm used to. All other aspects of it were fine.

Thought the feel of the 388 was better and the ball more controlable from 125 in and around the green. Easier to shot shape, get the ball to stop out of the bunkers. Both were fine off the tee no real distance, or impacts. Both still played well with my draw, had a nice ball flight not too high.

Have only tested 388 (Prov1) and was impressed with length even in cold weather, seemed to hold a line better and a soft feel. The usual drop and stop spin on approach was there which I love. Will try the 348 In a couple days.
