Finally had a chance to play a round with the test balls I received. From the black number on the balls i assume that they are prototype Pro V1's. Off the tee with my driver (913D3) I did not see much distance gain, maybe 3-5 yards at most. The real improvement was with wedge shots especially those under 60 yards and from the sand. The ball seemed to spin more and check up more quickly on the green. I also felt that the ball had a "softer feel" when putting. Thanks for letting me try these.

I've had the chance to use the balls on Champion Bermuda and Bent greens, wet and dry fairways, temps ranging from 51 to 88, from southern Florida to northern Georgia.

Honestly? For my skill level (9 HC), age (72), and swing speed (98-102 mph) I prefer the ProV1 that I've been playing over the ProV1 x's I rec'd in the mail. The ball flight was lower. The distance was shorter. The bite on the greens was about the same. Naturally, the ball felt a little harder.

I would have preferred to test the ProV1 for a more accurate comparison.

  3. Played two rounds in varied conditions. Ball performed admirably. Did not notice much difference in carry compared to Pro V1. Liked the click off the putter, excellent feel. Did notice that the ball seemed to scuff more readily than the Pro V1. Will get to see how they perform in cooler weather conditions.
  4. Received my sleeve of test balls and took them out for a number of rounds in different weather conditions. Here are my final thoughts:

Off the tee with a driver: felt very sticky off my driver face, did not feel like a ton of spin (sideways or other) which is a relief for me as I generally struggle off the tee. Bad shots were still bad, but I don't fault the ball for those.

Off the tee with an iron or hybrid: I felt like I could shape the ball a little more than I have in the past with either ProV's or my B330's. I tried to really draw the ball on dog legs and they really would go where I wanted them, so A+ on control.

Out of the fairway with irons: This is where I really wanted to like them, but couldn't. Every strike of the ball felt like I was hitting a rock, or a cally Warbird. I felt as if I lost a clubs worth of distance, and I could feel it in my hands much more than any other ball. For reference, my PW is usually 155-160 area with prov's and b330s, and I was getting 140-145 pretty consistently with these.

Out of the rough with irons: Same as the above, but dramatically lost distance - obviously you will from the rough, but moreso than any other ball.

Chipping: Just couldn't get the ball to bite or backup. Obviously, without seeing my play, you'll have to take me at my word, but I like to think that iron play and chipping are the best aspects of my game.

Putting: felt pretty springy, and I didn't have to hit very hard to make it go far. Pretty different from my regular ball, but felt pretty good.

Overall Sturdiness: Hit one OOB and into a tree, which then slammed down to a cartpath, but really minor scratches on the ball. On a ProV or B330, these would have been eaten up like crazy. My chips and pitches usually leave heavy gouging on balls, but not with these, which was refreshing.

Overall Ball flight: Pretty straight, not much side spin. Slices are still slices, and hooks are still hooks.

Overall Feel: a little rocky for me, and louder than other balls. Would prefer something with a softer feel.

Overall Control: Was able to shape my shots when I wanted, which is a huge plus

Final thoughts: Depending on the price, I would play these balls. The durability is nice, but I would really like to see an improvement on the rockiness (for lack of better term). I could deal with the loss of distance if that was addressed.
  5. I tested the balls that you sent me... I didn't know what they were since they only had a square or triangle on them... The triangle seemed to work best for me... The square ball felt harder... Both balls performed very well though... I will gladly test more at any time... Thanks for the opportunity....

Put my test balls through the ringer. I assume they are Pro V1 with the overall look of the dimples, patterns, and feel of the cover. Overall, I rank this prototype very high.

Off the driver - the ball had a very solid feel to it. The flight did not seem to be highly affected by cross winds. I noticed typical affects into the wind. Overall, the distance was about 5 yards, on average, longer than my normal distance.

Off the long and mid Irons - Distance was very comparable to my normal. The ball had a much softer feel off the irons than the driver (which to me is optimal). Had no issues moving the ball around or flighting it high or low. Reaction on the greens was the same as my norm.

Short irons - not a ton of difference noted from normal my action.

Overall - the overall feel of the ball was great. Distance was good (as compared to curent Pro V1). Control was great. Durability would be the only knock on this one. I was able to scuff the cover pretty easy with my Vokey SM5s.

Thank you Titleist for the opportunity. I look forward to more in the future.

I received my Titleist prototype Pro V's and went out a shot three rounds of golf with them. I found that I could work the ball in either direction with ease. I found with my driver the ball seemed to go farther with less spin. With my short irons i had great control of the ball. With my hybrids the ball jumped off the face of the clubs. While putting the ball seemed softer than the Pro V 1 that I usually play with. Overall I think this ball is very workable with a soft feel.

Just finished my testing with the black Titleist prototype. I'm 66, 5 handicap, & 93mph driver swing speed. I normally play the cally Chrome Soft and found this ball to be very similar in performance. It seemed to fly higher off the driver than CS but overall distance was same. The biggest difference I noticed was the Titleist seemed to spin more & backup on full wedge shots. I really liked the ball and would definitely put in play if it's priced right.

Tried the Pro V test ball on two rounds. Overall they performed quite well. Their performance was similar to the current Pro V’s, but the test balls did fly somewhat further and straighter than current Pro V’s. This difference was noticed with all clubs except wedges. My testing process was to play two balls form tee to green alternating, which was hit first. While I did not notice a difference with wedges, both rounds were played in with somewhat wet conditions so I was not getting much spin out of either ball. Even though the test ball flew a little straighter it was still workable. I enjoyed the process and greatly appreciated being asked to test the prototype product.

Thanks Titleist. Keep up the good work.
  10. I received my balls in the mail and enjoyed testing some new golf balls! I am one of those golfers that once I find what works best for me i very rarely want to change but always open to trying something new! Comparing the new ones to my 2016 Pro V1xs they felt fairly similar but at the same time they didn't fly the same and I also seemed to lose distance with them! When I was chipping or hitting into the green they seemed to stick and hold with not much release a lot better. When it came to putting it rolled and putted about the same!

Received the plain test box about a month ago. Played them for 4 rounds and found little difference overall. I have played the ProV1x since they came out and love them. Keep up the good work Team Titleist. Love testing the products. Would like feed back on this ball as to what the differences are?????

Finally able to try out the "TEST" balls. Distance on was not quite as long as my ProV!x but the backspin was incredible. More than I have ever had. Thank you Titleist!

Got my sleeve of Pro V1's, tested them out (only needed one) this weekend and shot my best score ever (78)!! Definitely felt longer of tee with lower trajectory than my normal very high tee shot. Feel around and on greens was phenomenal. Was locked into my putts and loved the soft feel. Much improved and highly recommended. 10/10

Finally had a chance to play a "test" ball. It has great feel and I'm getting extra distance off the tee and on my long irons. At the same time, it has a soft feel around and on the greens. Seems like a ball that incorporates the best qualities of the ProV1 and the ProV1x. The distance of the x with the softer feel of the ProV1. Big thumbs up!
  15. Thanks for the test balls. I had the Pro-V1. I found the ball to feel a little heavy coming off of the putter but this is with green speeds of about an 11. The cover of the ball was soft. I left wedge marks on the first hole using a Vokey Spin Milled 60 degree. Also on a bunker shot, a sand grain actually got embedded into the cover. The feel and shot shape were awesome, I was able to hit draws and fades when I needed more or less distance and a hook around a tree to hit a par 5 in two. I would say that this is the balls best aspect. It doesn't have as much spin as the B330 balls do but it doesn't have the clicky sound or feel either.
  16. I played the test balls and really like them. I play TM penta tp5, tp3, ProV1X. These balls felt very solid off the driver and long irons with a nice flat ball flight. I felt I had good feedback and flight on mid iron shots, with just the right ammount of spin to control trajectory and stop within a couple feet of pitch mark. Off the wedges and putter these had a nice solid feel without being too clicky.

At times, I was surprised by the additional carry I was getting with these balls. Overall, I like these balls alot, and look forward to playing these when they are released.

Weather finally broke in Upstate New York - and yes even some snow is gone - got to use Prototype Titleist against my new Custom Number Titleist - Appearance wise very little difference did appear to be some Dimple adjustments but may have been my eyes - Distance did not seem to notice any difference - Biggest Negative was the sound of ball - sounded Hollow especially on putts - one of my group even asked me if my ball was Styrofoam or older ball - know not what you may have wanted to hear but that is reason for asking us mid handicappers for feedback

The test balls arrived several weeks after the email requesting feedback, so I thought they got lost. Thank you for including me in your analysis. The way they arrived are just great, small unmarked box with a short note.
I liked the way the ball felt at impact, and it has a nice feel when putting. But it is hard to distinguish between the current Pro V balls. I will say once I got my swing dialed in that day it seemed to fly straighter than normal, so I was pleased with that. Overall this a very playable golf ball, I liked the feel of it and the distance was comparable to other Pro V balls.

Thanks for including me in the test. Fortunately we have had great weather to get out and test these. I have played 36 holes with two balls (have not lost one). I drove these really well. Seemed long and really held their line. I often go back and forth between the PovV1 and NXT Tour. These were the ProV1 (I assume, black number). Seemed a little longer on full shots. Feel was great. Seemed more durable to me. Both balls are still very playable. I will be ordering four dozen next spring during the sale (I hope that happens again). Thanks again.

I use both the ProV1 and the ProV1x ball throughout the year depending upon the course conditions and wind.
I found little difference in the Test red numbered ball to the ProV1x ball, other than softer feel around the green and also softer feel putting with the test ball.
