Acushnet Club Special - how old?

There is a Club Special sitting on my desk. During the 1970s my home course was in such tough shape that we played with old balls and kept a like new ball to putt with. The idea of putting with a Club Special was that the softer ball could be struck more forcefully on heavy greens.
