Wedge question

I would recommend figuring out the carry distance for your T300 PW, and then try different lofted Vokeys to get the distance gapping you want. You should not be far off if you have 4-5 degree gaps but its better to see what the carry distances are.

You can also get a 48 and 53 degree T300 to match your set. Maybe get the 48 at least and then Vokeys for the higher lofts.

If you go the 50-56 route, that's 7 degrees between PW and gap wedge. That's a lot. Are there a lot of bunkers on your course? Are you in them a lot? If the answer to either of those questions is yes, the 56 might be a the better choice. Also, the 56 might be more versatile for shots around the green. If you play a long golf course, the 48 -54 combo might be better. What wedge are you comfortable hitting full from 100 yards;48-50-54?

Just a few thoughts to consider before you choose.

For me it is all about gapping. I try to keep my gaps fairly consistent through the sand wedge. So if I have a 10+/- yard gap between 8-9, and 9-PW I look for the loft/shaft which Keeps that gap the same from PW-GW and GW-SW. For me, my lob wedge is a specialty club for use around the green so it is more about performance than distance on a full shot for my set up.

The first thing I would suggest is to get fitted. The Vokey people always say that the spread between lofts of the wedges should be 4-6 degrees in order to give a reasonable gap in the yardages for full shots. That being said my opinion would be for you to go with the 48/54 degree combination as this will give you a 5-6 degree spread in lofts for the full shots. But I would suggest that you consider a 60 degree lob wedge also. The reason I say this is if the courses you play have steep faced, deep bunkers, the 54 might have a bit of trouble getting the ball up quick enough to clear the lip and having the 60 will give you an option. With the 50/56 combination the 56 would get you out of most bunkers without having to purchase the lob wedge. The down side to this combo would be the 7 degree difference in the lofts ( 43 to 50) might create a hole in your full shot distances. Just as a reference I play an old set (2008) of AP1s which has a 45 degree PW and a 50 degree GW and I have a SM8 56 degree SW which seem to cover most of my needs on the full shots and the 56 does well out of the bunkers that I come across. If I were you, I would get fitted for wedges.

In my case, the biggest improvement in my game was when I got fitted for wedges. I saw a massive improvement in my short game.

When i fit people for T300's i almost always encourage the 48* as part of the set as it is primarily used for full swings - depending on your ability or how you want to load up your bag, the 53* option in the set could work then get a vokey 58* and use that for pretty much all your feel shots around the green. The other option is still go 48* in the set then go 52* and 56* in vokeys, if room go ahead and add a 60*.
