  1. Hello Team Titleist

I just wanted to let you know I am so excited to have booked my first round of golf in nearly four years !

I have had to have three major surgeries over the last three years and the physio after the second one told me it would be quite remarkable if I ever got out and swung a golf club again.

Well we will see next Saturday.

I have been a Titleist loyalist for over thirty years. I still remember the excitement when, as a junior using borrowed gear, I found a Titleist ball in the rough as I searched for my own ball. That was always something special, REAL golf.

I will be there on the first tee with a brand new set of Vokey SM7 wedges - I bought them just before my first surgery and never took them out of the wrappers.

I can't wait to reintroduce myself to this game I have loved since a young boy and Titleist will hopefully be there to help in every way, I'll need it.

    Thanks guys.

    Richard

Great post Richard and congrats on the comeback. As I approach 62 in a couple of weeks I am reminded of how quickly and easily this game can be taken away by illness or injury. I have been working real hard at my bucket list of courses the last few years, realizing if I wait until retirement or save more money, I might miss out all together or at best, not physically be able to enjoy playing those courses. Get out there and have some fun. Don’t worry if it’s not the way you remembered playing in the past. Just appreciate what it gives you for as long as you can. Hit’m straight and stay safe!
  3. Thank you so much

  6. Richard,

Congrats on your recoveries. As one who has had several major surgeries over the past few years ( open heart, knee replacement, and rotator cuff) I have had to take periods of time off to recover, so I understand your feelings. Just remember to take it easy and enjoy as El Bandito mentioned. I assume that your doctors have cleared you but be sure you follow any of their instructions. Don't put too much pressure on yourself because there will be rust. Just enjoy the outdoors and look forward to your next tee time. Just remember that Team Titleist will be here to help. Keep us posted on how it went.

  7. Really appreciate the message
  8. Wow !

Thanks for all the great replies

I chose a fairly short par 72 that I know well

The 18th is a par 3 with a tricky "peninsular" green. I went through the green and found the surrounding water. behind the green From the drop zone I pulled the "brand new" SM7 56 deg and holed the chip to shoot 89 !! Titleist were there after all :)

Bit of a way to get back to a 6 but every step was a joy and I realised just how fantastic this beautiful game is, even if my playing partner had already beaten me 3 and 2 with a generous number of shots.

Once again thank you for all the messages and onwards and upwards ( or hopefully downwards in terms of scores I suppose ).
  9. Like riding a bike you never lose it
    Well done!!

Great post and only wishing you the very best.

Take it easy out there and relax.

Look forward to reading your next post and see how it went.

Speedy recovery and enjoy that first tee shot.
  11. Hi Richard, I know how it feels. I only started to play golf when I retired and loved it. Unfortunately due to a series of illnesses I had to stop playing about 6 years ago. Now feeling ready to go back and pick it up again having just had my 70th birthday last week. Hope your game is going well, I expect to start playing again in January

  12. Richard, great news on the recovery. In the last five years I have twice had major surgery for cancer. Each time was no golf for 3months, only chipping for the next 3, and then only 9 holes at a time for the final 3 months. Each time seemed like 3 years.
I would struggle to walk more than 9 holes now, so I get an exemption for a buggy if I want to use one. Best bit with a buggy, no tired legs on the last few holes and one can load it up with spare ‘everything’.
But I look on the bright side, I’m still here. I treat and thoroughly enjoy every *** as if it is my last. Good or bad, I no longer care, although good is better.
In the old days it was the after round complaining about the few back shots and the what if’s.
Nowadays I just go for everything, never mind the missed putt on the first, the drive that caught the bunker on 8, what about that 7 iron on the 3rd, the chip in on 13 and that 1 iron on 18!
Happy days Richard and thoroughly enjoy every second.
