Planning a trip to Hilton Head early November. Have played Harbour Town and Atlantic Dunes in the past. Looking for any thoughts/recommendations on other courses to play in that vicinity. Thanks!

Of course, Heron Point is the other one inside the gates and part of the Sea Pines resort. All of the others are very good too. I don't think there is a bad course near Hilton Head. Budget not an issue, Palmetto Dunes 3 courses are nice, as is Oyster Reef. Even going off the island to Old South or Hilton Head National are good choices. Looking to go cheaper, the Shipyard and Port Royal courses are not bad and fun to play. Enjoy! If you make it to Hudson's, try the blackened scallops and wash them down with an Abita Turbodog.

Just down the road from me. Have worked and played in that beautiful area. You just cannot go wrong. I always recommend Reilly's Bar and Grill at the entrance to Sea Pines (on the left). Tom Reilly and his staff do an outstanding job of taking care of their patrons. The food and service are outstanding. When we are down there doing events for FootJoy that is our go to place. The two courses you played are the crème da la crème on the island. Might give some thought to playing off the island in Bluffton, which you will drive thru going over to the island. Have fun and the weather should be in your favor. Hurricane season is over the end of November. Have fun. Traffic not so bad after labor day.

Thanks, Dale and Chuck - apprecite your assistance. My home club in DE is Troon managed. Belfair in Bluffton is part of their Prive' Program. Heard this is a nice track - any thoughts from anyone who has played it? Thanks!
  5. I like Oyster Reef on the island..also Jack Nicklaus has a couple great courses.

Off island, many great choices...including Belfair!

FWIW, I think Heron Point is better than Atlantic Dunes and Dye is a better architect than Love, so that's my advice there.

Belfair has two very nice Fazio courses - East and West, you will enjoy them.

I live nearby at another two course club and might be able to play, but I'm not sure how to privately message on here.

You will not be disappointed in Heron Point or either Belfair!

    Hi Jim R-

Hope you have fun and play well while in Hilton Head.

I agree with Dale on a few of his suggestions.
    Oyster Reef- on island
Old South - just west of the bridge on 278 in Bluffton
Both of these course are in good condition, fun to play and the staffs are friendly and professional.

I highly recommend eating at Hudson's. Freshly caught seafood everyday.

I spend the Summers in Hilton Head and have to agree with the suggestions above. Belfair is quite a treat, take advantage of that offer!

Recent Hilton Head trip update: played Harbour Town, Palmetto Dunes-George Fazio and Heron Point. All three were in good shape but HT and Fazio courses were just 'over-seeded' that required heavy watering, making for pretty wet conditions. That being said, always a treat to play HT. Heron Point was in very good shape but played slow. But would recommend Heron Point over Atlantic Dunes. Next visit definitely will play Belfair and Oyster Reef. And Reilly's Bar and Grill was great for lunch/cocktails; Ela's on the Water had the best seafood dinner...

We were scheduled to do an event down there at one of the private clubs on Thursday night but it was cancelled due to the Hurricane. Can you believe that, something rare in November for our area. Glad you had a good time. Over seeding this time of the year is common for the tee boxes and fairways. Like it green in winter with rye grass.

Be sure to try Hudson’s next time you are there. They always have awesome food as well.
