    Been looking at going to Myrtle Beach, SC for a golf trip this fall, there are a ton of courses that look appealing. What are some must plays for first time there, and what should we take a pass on? Looking at 4 rounds. Appreciate the feedback in advance.

    Live down the road in Mt Pleasant and spend a bit of time up there throughout the year doing events mainly at private clubs. Recommend The Dunes, Tidewater, Barefoot Resort, Grande Dunes, and TPC.

    Chuck up there nailed it. Tidewater is probably my favorite out of those he listed. Barefoot is also a great complex with all different choices on which course to play (Fazio, Dye, Norman, Love). Also, if you’re into seafood, I recommend the Flamingo Grill. Enjoy the trip!

    X2 on Tidewater and Barefoot Resort. I also like Glen Dornoch and Oyster Bay on the north end. You'll get your fill of gators at Oyster Bay. They love to sun all over the par 3 15th. Just don't turn your back on them when teeing off ; ).

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND Sea Captain's House Restaurant on North Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach. Off 33rd Ave facing the Ocean and the food is to die for. Some of the best local seafood I have had in Myrtle Beach and I lived in in MB two years and Charleston 35 years. At stated, seafood is local which is very important for coastal restaurants and I highly recommend reservations. Very popular among the locals with lots of parking across the street. Not a chain nor a tourist rip off.

    Barefoot is a solid location if you don't want to get all 4 in one place.
    TPC Myrtle Beach, Caledonia, and True Blue are all solid in the southern Myrlte area.
    The Dunes, Tidewater, Glen Dornoch along with Barefoot in North Myrtle Beach.
    MB National just west. I enjoyed Man o War and The Wizard a lot more than I thought I would.

    There are nice courses in the area and the above posts have listed many of them. We always try to play near where we are staying as Myrtle Beach is quite spread out. You can't just hop on the expressway and get anywhere quickly as the pace of the area is a bit slower. Traffic can be an issue to consider when making your choices...

    Traffic can be a real issue up there. It can take 45 minutes to get from TPC in Murrells Inlet to Grande Dunes and Barefoot in North Myrtle Beach. Hwy 17N Bypass is crazy. Caledonia and True Blue are in Murrells Inlet also. Arcadian Shores is near Tanger Outlet Mall and across from a camper park if that is your thing. I lived in Myrtle Beach in the early 70's and it has become a nightmare when it comes to traffic and growth. I only go up there to visit or play golf with friends to happen to be there or when I to go there to work golf events.

    Barefoot and Grande Dunes are great in NMB. I will be there in July and am looking forward to Glen Dornoch, Oyster Bay, and not sure about 2 other courses.

    Tidewater is my favorite. Arcadian Shores is a decent course for a reasonable price as well.

    We have been going to Myrtle Beach for 9 years now. Tidewater is good. Caledonia is my favorite with True Blue rounding out my top 3 courses when in the area. Several courses in the running to be included as the 4th TPC MB is good, Arrowhead, Barefoot. As one mentioned we found The Witch, Man O War surprisingly good venues as very reasonable rates as well. Tidewater and Barefoot is about as far north as I have gotten so there may be good choices there as well.

    You should consider Grande Dunes. Was up there working a charity event a week ago and was talking to the director and he said the course is in great shape. Four of the state's top courses are part Founders Group International, according to the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel. It named Pine Lakes Country Club, Grande Dunes Resort Course, TPC Myrtle Beach, and Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club to its 2017 Top Courses Available For Public Play. Check out Founders Group International courses in the Myrtle Beach area. They are well run and kept.

    Rates are lower in July and August, but the temperatures and humidity are higher. Please drink lots of water. The temperatures are supposed to hit the 100's this weekend. Looks like summer is coming early and according to the hurricane service, supposed to be an active season (June-November). But who knows, they do what they want, regardless what the predictions are and you have enough warning that you can get the heck out of SC. Come on down and enjoy all the fun we enjoy every day of the year.......we had a mild winter so the greens should be in good shape up there.......

    I will offer up a few that are great courses and that are often forgotten about: Prestwick, Thistle (NC), River's Edge (NC), & Willbrook Plantation.

    I was recently in MB in March on a golf package and played the (3) Legends courses and Heritage Club. While the Legends courses were in great shape, the whole facility was a little on the crowded side. The Heritage Club was in fantastic shape and had a nice relaxing feel to it.

    Hi all, These courses around Myrtle Beach sound fun. Its fun to read all your comments and suggestions. I've only played in Southern California and never played the other coast. But hope to get there this summer. What is the main difference between the courses on the west vs. the east coast? Do the greens roll different? I hear there are lots more trees with tighter fairways and have to work the ball both ways? Thanks for your feedback!

    Honestly, there are so many courses in Myrtle Beach you can find whatever your preference. There is every type and shape of course you can imagine. Last I heard there were over 100 course in that area.
