    Need opinions from the gallery. My wife, sister-in-law, and a couple of their cousins have decided that we need to do a “couples” vacation later this year to someplace in the Caribbean. They’re looking for an all-inclusive. I’m 100% game, but I have ONE stipulation- MUST have a golf course. So my question is this- to those of you who’ve played in the Caribbean, where would you suggest? Jamaica, D.R., Cayman Islands, Bahamas, etc. are all on the table. — looking for recommendations

    Love Caribbean golf! When the kids were young, we took many cruises and the clubs always came along. Now that they’re on their own, my wife and I travel to Bermuda when we can.

    My first choice is Bermuda. I love Port Royal (my avatar), and Mid-Ocean was fun too. And a nice par 3 at the Southampton Princess.

    I’ve played in Cozumel, Puerto Rico and St Thomas. The Cozumel course was a Nicklaus design, kind of short with lots of roll. Mahogany Run in St Thomas was also short, but the par 3 on the Devil’s Triangle was tough. Hard to trust aiming a tee shot 30 yards off shore and count By on the wind bringing it back! I’ve forgotten the name of the PR course (Dorado?), very nice as well.

    I haven’t played in the Dominican, but they have some great courses from what I’ve seen. And some nice resorts too.

    Not sure when you’re going but I was there usually in the mid summer. Some tips - drink plenty of water - it is hot and humid! Watch out for the local foliage. I don’t know what I brushed against in Cozumel, but I had a rash on my arm for several months. If you’re not bringing your clubs, you might consider bringing a few sleeves of balls. I played with one person who rented clubs and a sleeve of mediocre balls was $19. A dozen of the same at home would have been less!

    Thanks, George! The kids aren't coming on this trip, so we're focusing on adults-only resorts. I also posted this in the Titleist group on FB, and have gotten some great reviews there as well. I'd like to play 2 or more rounds, so the sticks will definitely come with me. Good to know about balls also.

    i am going to the Cayman's early next year. Hope they have a golf course there. As I know the island is kind of small.

    Did you have to play Mid-Ocean with a member or were you able to get on as a guest? I'm headed to Bermuda in April and looking at playing Port Royal and Turtle Hill, but would gladly add or swap out Turtle Hill for the chance to play Mid-Ocean.

    Cannot help, because when we go to the Caribbean we do the cruise ship thing. My wife and I are retired and we can go anytime and anywhere we please plus she works for a cruise ship line. So, very little time to play golf. My time to get away from the game, relax, visit the ports and enjoy the local culture and earties. My wife never complains about how much golf I play or any golfing trips I make. She is a sweetie and after 41 years of marriage when we choose a destination for a vacation, very seldom do my clubs go with us, but there are some exceptions (if we drive or go to California).

    The nicest course I have played to date in the Caribbean is Punta Espada in the DR.,this past December. It is like passing out and waking up in Golfers heaven. It is spectacular,but not cheap. The only resort attached to it is Eden Roc, but golf is not part of their package.
    Second to Punta Espada is Sandals Emerald Bay, where you walk out the front door and the course is across the street, Beautiful ocean course,by Greg Norman. They are actually playing a .Com tour event there this week.
    Have been to Jamaica many times and have always played Cinnamon hill and White Witch. Actually, going back in Feb for a week. The only resort that offers free golf at those 2 courses is the Iberostar Grand Rose hall. You are allowed 2 rounds per person per week, at either track
    Wherever you go, as long as it has water holes or views,you will thoroughly enjoy.

    Thanks for the feedback. I think Sandals Emerald Bay is at the top of the list right now. I saw that they have a Norman course, and based on when we're looking, and the length of stay, it'll include 2 "free" rounds. "Free" HA! I'm sure I'll have to pay one way or another!

    They always have promotions for golf. When we were there 5 years ago, unlimited golf was included with our package. Played 10 out of 11 days. I believe the rate at the time if golf was not included was around 179.00 US.

    Staying at Atlantis and playing the Ocean Club is pretty daggone awesome.

    Also loved Mayakama, and Grand Velas is about as good as it gets.

    DR has some good courses and Teeth of the Dog is one of my all-time favorites, only ding on DR was our caddie lifted $400 from my wife's backpack... But then there's Jamaica and The White Witch.... There are 4-5 good courses in Jamaica that are worth playing.

    Have not played any courses in Barbados, mainly because the courses are $$ and a few you have to be staying at the resort, like Sandy Lane Resort and their Green Monkey course (where TW bought out the resort for wedding)! Rooms start at $550 and the course is nearly just as expensive.

    So my two are Dominican Republic and Jamaica, with the edge going to the Rasta Land!

    I would like to know. Going to the Grand Caymans. I have never been in that area and would love to play golf there somewhere.

    I played both courses in Grand Cayman in October and wasn't impressed by either. Still worth playing.

    I will echo the recommendations for Sandals Emerald Bay, the course at the Atlantis, and Mayakoba. Mayakoba was my favorite of these three. I will be able to comment on the Cayman Ritz course in a month and want to play the Abaco Club sometime as well. I also like to bonefish so Caribbean golf fits in well for me!

    Well, it looks like Jamaica is where everyone wants to go. Based on where we're looking at staying, it seems like I have about 3 options- White Witch, Half Moon, and Cinnamon Hill.

    That’s weird! I was going to recommend White Witch in Jamaica. I can’t remember the other course I played in Montego Bay, but White Witch was the better of the two. If you haven’t checked out the Iberostar Grand there you’re going to regret it. Top notch everything. Have a pic from White Witch.

    My wife an i were in the Bahamas at a place called Baha Mar, it has a golf course called Royal Blue. It was an awesome resort and the golf course was incredible. I played 3 times while we were there, she drove the cart! I would recommend it 10/10

    Like George T said, Bermuda is the way to go! I stayed at the Fairmont Southhampton and we played Port Royal (my picture) Mid ocean and Turtle Hill. Turtle hill is an absolute blast for some late evening rounds and Mid ocean and Port Royal are absolutley beautiful. Tuckers Point is another great one to check out as well!

    I could suggest Paradise Island Golf Club in Bahamas. Even James Bond stayed there in Casino Royal :) It has a great beach and staff is just the best. Soon I will be visiting there again, we are going to [url=https://tranio.com/caribbean_islands/]buy property in Caribbean Islands[/url].

    Played Port Royal Golf Course today and absolutely striped it dead at the flag stick on the 16th w/ my AP1 5 iron. One of the best holes I've ever played. Up there w/ Devil's Cauldron at Banff Springs Golf Course.

    I lived in Jamaica from 1974-1980 and none of those courses were even built then, but I've walked Cinnamon Hill during an LPGA event there about 9 years ago. It looks like quite a challenge.

    If you are on the north coast, it's worth the ride west to Tryall. In the other direction near Ocho Rios is Runaway Bay. That's also worth playing. If you somehow get to Kingston, Constant Spring in the St Andrews residential district is interesting, but a really nice course a bit out of Kingston near Spanishtown is Caymanas Golf & CC.

    The main one you don't want to miss is Tryall though.

    All-Inclusive Sandals Emerald Bay is a great track... and the people were incredible. They got us out early morning while our wives slept in and we had the rest of the day to enjoy the warm Caribbean sun with them. We played the week following the Web.com tour event so the conditions were at the best.
