    I've only played Longbow GC just east of Scottsdale. It was pretty good, what i would call a medium grade public course. Affordable but in pretty good condition. I go out to the Phoenix area every year for MLB Spring Training games but "she who must be obeyed" comes along and so the clubs stay home.

    We-Ko-Pa (saguro) is a great course to play.

    Tim, Go up to Troon North - it's in North Scottsdale they have two courses both are awesome. The only issue is in October they will be pricey.

    October is tough in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Many courses are closed for overseeding or have just recently reopened. They may be cart path only and the fairways and greens may be a little longer than normal. That being said, you can still find some good places to play especially if you are willing to drive a bit. Some of my favorites (in no particluar order) are:

    WeKoPa- 36 holes, I prefer the Cholla course
    Wickenburg Ranch
    Quintero
    Southern Dunes

    With over 100 courses in the Valley, there are a ton to choose from. Price range that time of year is anywhere from 60.00 to 300.00. All of the courses listed above are excellent, and some are around 75 miles apart! The West side of the valley has some gems too. The Wigwam resort has the Robert Trent Jones Sr., Gold course (7600 yard tree lined beast, American Parkland golf course). Or the Tom Lehman designed courses at Verrado. I guess my point is, there are quality courses everywhere in Phoenix. But if price isn't a factor in Scottsdale: Troon, Greyhawk, We-Ko-Pa, TPC Scottsdale, Legends Trail, DC ranch, etc...But the trip to Wickenburg is definitely worth it to play Wickenburg Ranch. I played it 30 times before it opened to the public. Fantastic. And it has a cool little par 3 with lights and music for night golf and cocktails!

    I don't get out that way too often but have some friends that live out your way. I know we are always looking for people to tee it up with if you are ever interested.

    I will be playing Troon North (Monument), TPC Scottsdale and the Camelback GC.

    Which course at Camelback Ben? Padre is good but Ambiente is fantastic! Also, just heard a whisper that TPC Scottsdale is not in the best shape right now. Not sure exactly what that means or how reliable the information is but wanted to pass it along.

    I'm headed to Scottsdale at the end of January, to celebrate my 40th birthday. We're planning to play 4 days and hit the WM Open one day. Tentative plans include: both We-Ko-Pa courses, both Troon North courses, Southern Dunes, Dinosour Mountain, and maybe SunRidge Canyon.

    All good courses Beau.Sounds like a great trip. I highly recommend WeKoPa (both courses) and Southern Dunes is in my top five in the state. Unfortunately, they are not close to each other though. Logistics might be an issue if you try to fit all of those courses into your trip. Double check locations and how much time you want to spend driving. I am happy to help in any way I can.     Thanks, Tyler! We're staying just 3 miles south of the TPC Scottsdale course, so I think we'll have relatively easy access to most of the courses.....please correct me if I'm wrong. The furthest one is Southern Dunes, and the plan is to go straight there from the airport on the day we fly in (since it's that far south).

    The last time I was there to play golf was in 2010....we played Seville (had a friend who lived in the area and was a member), Legend Trail, and Ocotillo.

    Seville is a fantastic golf course and I live right by Ocotillo so I know it well. North Scottsdale is a great spot to stay. No shortage of quality golf. I think playing Southern Dunes right after you land is a good call as it is the furthest away from where you will be staying. It is about 45 minutes southwest of Sky Harbor. Definitely worth playing. It is an exceptional golf course and can be tough especially if the wind is blowing. Dinosaur Mountain is probably about the same time spent driving but to the east, and at the base of the Superstition Mountains. It is a fun course too but for different reasons. Where Southern Dunes is just a true test of golf, Dinosaur will give you elevation changes and gorgeous views. There is another course at Gold Canyon called Sidewinder. Excellent course as well but nowhere near as scenic as Dinousaur. You may want to check this out as you will already be at the resort playing Dinosaur. WeKoPa is just outside of Fountain Hills. Not too far from where you will be staying but it is accessible from Shea Blvd and not a freeway.

    Hopefully I don't deter you from playing any of these courses. That truly was not my intent. They are all great and you will not regret playing any of them.

    No sir, no deterring here! I'm always happy to get local advice. If you were going to pare down my list, what would you remove, or are there others that we should consider? Initially, plans look like this (tentatively):

    Wednesday- Arrive, try to play Southern Dunes
    Thursday- WeKoPa (both courses)
    Friday- Troon North (both courses)....but maybe we replace them with Gold Canyon (both courses)
    Saturday- WM Open
    Sunday- SunRidge Canyon before flying home (5:30pm flight out)

    I think, logistically speaking, that Troon North will be a better fit into this agenda. I would save the Gold Canyon courses for another trip unless you truly want to play them. You won't be disappointed with WeKopa. The agenda looks great and if I had to critique anything, it would be Sunridge Canyon. It is kind of out of the way from Scottsdale and the airport. Your flight is late enough that you should have no problem if you tee off early enough. All depends on how much you drink at the WM Open and who is playing the Birds Nest that night.

    There are a bunch of good courses along the 101 freeway between the airport and Scottsdale. i would be happy to offer suggestions. Also, there are a few right around the airport too if you are interested. ASU Karsten will be closing and the Sun Devil golf teams will be moving to Papago (which is another excellent course).

    Played a few out in Scottsdale including TPC and the courses at the Boulders. Troon North is really something special though!!!

    This is a Hidden Gem Stone Creek Golf Club in Paradise Valley.
    The cost will not break your back and you have fantastic conditions

    Try we-ko-pa. Played it last Oct. Going again on 10/27 for a week. Great weather.

    Would recommend TPC Scottsdale, but our favorite out there is Troon North by far. It is kept in immaculate condition at all times. Great bar/dining area and a really well stocked Pro Shop as well.

    One thing to remember is to DRINK a lot of water! Super easy to get dehydrated because you never feel like you're sweating out in the low humidity!!

    If I were staying in Scottsdale, I would play -
    WeKoPa (both courses are great)
    Grayhawk (both courses are great)
    Troon North (both courses are great)
    Talking Stick (both courses are very good)
    Wildfire (both courses are very good)

    There’s really no reason to drive all over the valley here. No matter where you stay, there are a number of really nice courses nearby. Yes, we are very spoiled here...
