Taking vacation in myrtle beach this year. Looking for a few course recommendations. Where have you played at?

    Nick,

You can't go wrong playing Caledonia, True Blue, Myrtle Beach National King's North. I would also throw in Preswick as a real sleeper which I have played and may have some of the fastest greens on the strand.

True Blue and/or Caleadonia are must plays in my opinion. Pawleys Plantation is great too!

    1. TPC at Myrtle Beach
    2. The Dunes
    3. Surf Club
    4. Tidewater

I have played the above four and enjoyed them. The Legends and Grande Dunes seem like good courses.

There are a great number of courses at Little River, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet and Myrtle Beach to choose from and do not think you will be disappointed. The grand strand is the number one golf destination in the U.S. June, July and August are the hottest months in SC with high temperatures and the humidity at that time of the year can drive the heat index well over 100 most of the time. I live near Charleston and that time of the year we play golf early in the am because of the dangerous heat index and we are used to the weather.

Barefoot Resort. 4 wonderful courses, by four accomplished designers. Tom Fazio, Greg Norman, Davis Love and Pete Dye.

All great tracks. All top-shelf. All in one place.

I'm there every year, in the fall. There are a lot of courses to recommend. My recommendations for the best to play based on our experiences..... if you don't mind paying a little more here's my list....Grande Dunes-great layout, several holes along the intra-coastal waterway, and superb condition, at least tied with the best we've played. Heritage-the front winds through the woods, an old plantation and a great mix of holes, while the back starts to bring in a lot of water. TPC-good layout, and after issues with the greens (they tried bentgrass and they all died) many years ago, it's always in excellent shape, a nice mix of tree lined and water coming in on others. Caledonia-it doesn't get any better than this. Always in great shape, and a perfect place to sit on the porch overlooking the 18th green. 18 is a short par 4 to finish but...water along the drive, and going over the water for the green. You'll usually have an audience on that porch for your finish cheering your good shots. The Barefoot courses are very good. I'd recommend the Love and Fazio courses as first choices. Also Tidewater up North. Excellent along the sea marshes and also always in great shape and lots of variety. Myrtle Beach National, Arnold Palmer's King's North, Again in great shape and lots of variety from short island par 3's to par 4's over water, and variety of part 5's.
Other than that, Tiger's Eye up North, along with Leopards Chase at the same complex. Long Bay is nice too, along with Prestwick, Willbrook, Pawley's Island (pretty hard especially when the wind blows). International World Tour is always in excellent shape. If you go into it thinking your going to see 17 at TPC, 12 and 13 at Augusta, you'll be disappointed. But if you go into it seeking an excellent course always in excellent condition you won't be disappointed.
If you're on a budget, Wild Wing is top notch for the price. Man'O War I'm sure gets overlooked because it is fairly cheap but you will not be disappointed. Founders Club at Pawley's Island also down South. Lots of sand, but mostly play as waste bunkers. Wachesaw East also a great course for the price, and if you don't mind driving, Freddie Couples design Carolina National up North. Multiple sets of tees that change the hole depending on where you play it.
If you don't mind paying, The Dunes. You won't get on Friday - Sunday, but it's always in the top 100 list of Best Courses in the US. If it sounds like there's a lot of choices there is. Enjoy.

Give Man of War a try, as well as the Witch...Both really fun different courses. The PGA Myrtle is super cool too.

Its a blast down there, I go with my foursome every year to kick off the golf year. My favorites so far have been Man of War (tons of water) and the Witch. Both are not your typical courses so a good change of pace. The PGA Myrtle Beach is also worth playing, clubhouse is great and last 3 holes are very fun.

    Nick,

I travel to Myrtle Beach 3 times a year to golf! I would recommend playing the following courses, these are the TOP courses in Myrtle Beach:

    1. Dunes Club
    2. Tidewater
    3. Caledonia
    4. True Blue
    5. Barefoot Resort - Dye Course
    6. TPC Myrtle Beach

You won't be disappointed with any of these choices!

I would strongly disagree with anyone who suggests any of the Legends courses which would also include the Heritage. These people will stack the tee sheet at 6 minute intervals which creates a nightmare on the golf course. Their maintenance crews will perform maintenance while you golf and could careless about the golfers. They consider you as interuptting their work. They do not send out marshals as there is nothing they can do as the courses are so jammed up. If you like playing 6 hour rounds of golf then these courses are for you. Numerous other complaints about Legends courses. Be forewarned, I told you.

TPC myrtle beach is at the top of mine, and my friends list. The wives have generously agreed to two rounds while we are down there. Wr are staying in North MB, TPC is as fat south as we'd like to travel. Caledonia and true blue are out. Narrowed it down to barefoot or MB national. Thanks for the input. Much appreciated

Caledonia, The Dunes Club and Barefoot Landing/The Love Course are top 3. There are plenty other great courses but these are the best. Enjoy.
