Quick update: As of today, the recovery is going exceptionally well, still no guarantees of me playing golf next season. The cage and screws have settled in and the most delicate part of the recovery has passed, my restrictions have been modified to allow me more "freedom", I still need to pay a lot attention how to carry my self on a day to day, especially with the lovely winter here in Michigan. I get to see my doctor again in a couple of weeks and for the time being, I feel really good, the pain level on a daily basis is probably the lowest I have had since I was a teenager. Thank you again for everyone who chimed in and the get well wishes along the way.

Good luck to all of you guys out there who have back problems. It's no fun. After years of abusing my back through work and play, I ruptured the L5-S1 10 years ago. Leg went numb from hip to toes. I could hardly walk. 7-8 epidurals [I lost count], a lot of therapy and I'm in a pretty good place. I still have some numbness, which can get worse if I make the wrong move. With good advice, a good therapist, a lot of yoga and core, I'm still playing some darned good golf. The key for me to avoid surgery was the therapy and keeping at it. At 61 I'm in better shape than most guys my age. I've met guys who have had 1-2, or more, surgeries and continue to have a lot of trouble because they don't take care of their bodies. Some people who give me grief about playing a lot of golf with a bad disk don't realize that the worst thing for me is sitting at my desk all day. Playing golf in a cart is murder. The only time I ride is during events when everyone else rides and even then I try to walk as much as possible. Golf and a bad back can co-exist.

It has been a year already? It actually has, for the past 12 months since the surgery, I have just gotten physically better and stronger. I feel as good and happy as I was 20 years ago. Life without pain is the best life.
