Working in the equipment world would be good experience. Moving from a large retailer to a Cameron Showcase partner or Titleist Premier fitting location would help you get noticed. My experience is the retail-oriented OEMs use a cadre of demo guys for shows that don't seem to be as qualified as the Titleist guys I've seen at more select events.

Seek out the current Titleist rep in that area and speak with him. I'm sure he will give you advice similar to 19hole's. Most of the reps have been in their positions for many years.
