I really want a scotty...

Totally understand how you feel. I only have two things in my bag that aren't Titleist. My glove (swoosh) and my putter (Odyssey White Hot XG #7 CS). I've talked about it with my coach and a few others that are coaches. They love Scottys and say if you really want to then go for it. They also say that my putting is very consistent with what I have now and if it was up to them not to change only because everything works. I have been looking at second hand because the putter that would probably fit me best is the Golo Select S5 CS, but still not sure if I want to make that change as I can't just grab one at a shop and try it. Hope you find what you're looking for in more than one way!

These days it's getting harder to tell if a club is counterfeit. You might try looking on the Scotty Cameron website to see if they have any tips for recognizing counterfeits. Best way to ensure you get an authentic Scotty is to save for the new one.

Put the new, genuine Scotty on a credit card and play one round less each month until you pay it off. In the meantime, when you are skipping that round each month, spend the time instead on the practice green doing putting drills with the new Scotty. In a few months, you'll own both the Scotty and a better putting stroke. The justification for buying the putter will then be easy. Lower scores (in addition to that pretty cool SC headcover sticking out of the bag).

William, years ago, I faced the same dilemma; Cost. But then I realized that guys will pay upwards of $400 for that new driver which they hit 10-14 times per round but will not drop any money on a putter which they hit at least 25 times per round. The golden rule is you putt for dough. Get the Scotty.

Nothing is nicer than buying a brand new SC putter. I'd say set a goal to save $ whether it would be forgoing Star Bucks for a month or not going how to eat and drink as often or instead of playing golf one weekend hit the practice range and that money you saved from that round put towards the new putter.

I'd be REAL careful if you go second hand, like Barry said fakes are everywhere. If you do, make sure you get it from a reputable re-seller that offers money back. First off most of the biggies, (3balls, Global, 2ndswing) will take care of you. Best advice is to find a shop that offers demos (with the cost you may have to leave your credit card deposit until you bring it back) play a couple rounds and see how it feels, and like Allen said, your going to use that more and save more strokes than that $300-400 booming driver.

It is the one club you use more than any other. One reason to buy new is to find someone that can fit you with the model that works with your swing. It will then be an investment that will work for years. I always thought I needed a mallet and owned a Futura-X. I was not comfortable hitting from 3-6 feet. My favorite fitter found I need more toe flow and I now have a Newport-2. I'm gaining 4-6 strokes a round over the Futura-X.

Rather invest some money in a perfect putter than in a new driver or something else. No other club you are hitting that often

I would recommend going with a Scotty purchased from a certified Titleist dealer.
Since I purchased one, I have become a more confident putter. Confidence means more putts going in the hole.

I hear all the time, "wow, you have a Scotty Cameron putter!" Like it is something special (well, it is, but that's not my point). This is a rationale that I just don't get. These same guys will have a $450 driver that maybe hit 14 times a round, but they won't spend the money on a high quality putter from Scotty Cameron that they will use 25-35 times a round. Spend the money, buy a brand new, authentic Scotty Cameron putter. Your game will thank you for it.

The putter is the most important club in the bag so I would say hold out to buy that will be best. I recently bought a scotty and I have seen major improvements. I comes off the putter face a million times better than any other brand and although they are quite expensive they are definitely worth splashing out on.

I've been using a friends old golo this weekend, I won captains day and also played 36 on Sunday with no three putts.. the roll was beautiful.

The dialema I have is that it requires a new grips and one that's 20" or there abouts as it's an extendable shaft with 2" cut off the top.

I've found a few options the longest being the dual balance at 14.75"

I've booked in for a putter fitting to see if this is suited to me or if I should look to a newer model built to my spec. Only time will tell really to see what happens.
