We were playing the Club Championship, and I wasn’t particularly playing well. In fact, I was down to my last two balls. Coming into #16, the hardest par 3 on the course, I knew I had my work cut out for me.
I had 198 yards to the pin and hit a 6 iron with a high draw to the green. It was hazy and I couldn’t tell if it was close or not. I took out my range finder, but couldn’t see the ball. I assumed it was behind this hill on the right part of the green.
As I was driving up, I joked to myself that maybe it went into the hole. Once we got to the green, I didn’t see a ball anywhere. My playing partners were already walking on the green and checked the hole and immediately started celebrating.
I still cannot believe it went in!
Of course, in true form of that day, the very next hole I hooked it out of play into the woods. A short lived moment with my hole in one ball!
