First Hole in One!

  1. I finally did it! I've been playing golf since 5th grade and even spent the first 8 years of my time primarily playing a par 3 course in my hometown. All of that time I had been close on more than one occasion but never had a hole in one to my name. This was probably the least likely time to get one as I tweaked my back Wednesday during my workout and had a hard time getting around Thursday and Friday. I resolved myself to playing in this tournament on Saturday though so did everything I could to loosen myself up and play in this charity event. It took 4-5 holes to be able to swing properly but by the end of our first 18 I felt pretty decent. The second 18 of the day started on the par 5 fifth hole. I was still feeling pretty good and stepped up to our third hole of the round, the par 3 seventh. It was a decently breezy day with a left to right, slightly back wind. The hole shot 153 on the range finder with a back middle pin placement. I hit a very smooth 8 iron that ballooned pretty high in the air and rode the wind from left to right back to the pin. It landed just left of the flag, bounced once, spun back and disappeared from view. I was very hesitant to celebrate until I saw it in the cup with my own eyes even though all of my playing partners were cheering and giving high fives. We walked up and sure enough it was there in the bottom of the cup!

It was a very memorable day as it was a two man scramble with my father-in-law and a large amount of coworkers and friends present to celebrate with. We had even joked before the hole about how tough it would be to top the closest to the pin.
