any ideas?
Trey PLubbock, TX
Looks to me like two things.
1) On both shots, at the mid-point of the back swing your clubface is closed rather than square. Then at the top it is open, then closing on the way back down. There is A LOT of hand and arm manipulation there.
2) Again, on both shots, you have a lot larger shoulder turn than you do hip turn.
Something to practice for the first item-On the way back feel as if you're shaking hands and after impact have the same feeling. Got that tip from Tom Watson. He said he always felt as if he was shaking hands on the way back, and shaking hands on the way thru after impact.
Something to practice for the second item-Stand with your feet together on the range, with the ball out in front of you where you would actually hit it. Take your normal swing, and on the downswing, step into the ball. This will help get the correct feeling of a full weight transfer to your left side and help get your hips thru the swing.
Also, go to www.golfchannel.com, and search for Michael Breed. He is a Titleist Ambassador, and REALLY knows his stuff. Him and Martin Hall are the two guys that I get A LOT of info from to help with the swing. I am a 3 handicap, and these are the guys that really know their stuff. Hope this helps.
thanks, yeah i'm trying to get rid of all the hand and arm manipulation but it hasn't been working. I think I figured out what was happening in the backswing after looking at this video (hadn't seen my swing on camera in 10+ years) I played competitively until my second year of college and had some back issues which caused me to try to use the arms and hands more. It worked okay when I was playing every day but I think the arm manipulation you noticed actually caused the back issue (upper/middle back inflamation) in the first place.
it's funny you mention watson as well as I took lessons as a kid from his teacher stan thirsk and that is exactly what he told me then. :)
thanks again.

your alittle steep on your down swing and your pulling threw impact. Its alot easyer to see on your driver swing. watch your swing arc threw the impact zone. you'll see what im talking about. I think thats a Flag in the back ground that your aiming at if im right look for your ball to pass just left in the dark shade of the tree line. Your also snaping those wrist threw alittle too soon on your fallow threw when your club points down the target line your club face is closed already. Yea im trying to watch the video as im writing this and if check your forarms at impact your right forarm is covering your left. from this camra angle is should see alittle left forarm at impact. also your alignment looks off. you look like your shoulders are aimed left of your feet.
Thats just what i see man i could be way off Im sure RC will coment on this and give you a good assesment.
If you have alignment sticks set them down on your target lines. Also Mr Breed from the Golf Fix had a tick for this one. Put a shoe box angled slightly away from your target line were the back insde corner of the box is at the outer most point of were your club face should be traveling. If you hit the shoe box your comeing out side to in to much. i think this will work for your quick hands. You'll still play a little draw but your ball should start off right to left this way. Also try firing your hips sooner. you seem to be starting your hips and sholders at the same time. your hips should start the motion this alows them to clear intime for your hands to come threw. If they dont clear you get that upper body naturaly pushing the hands out. Clear the hips should help keep the hands in.
Cheers Simba.
Tell me how you feel about this feed back. I always like to know if im getting it right or not. There are so many diffrent teaching tools for these things every time i stop and think i come up with something else. If your wrist are till to fast let me know i have a fix for that too.
