Well it's very possible that you're just forgetting one or some key ingredients in a good swing. To help me out, I write T-W-I/O-L-S(or just Twiols) with a sharpie in small letters at the bottom of my glove where I'll see it and remember things about my swing I might be forgetting(which is legal in tournament play).
T-Tempo: Keep the same pace, strength, and fluidity going back, as you are coming down.
W-Weight: Smoothly transfer to your back foot when your club's at the top; and shift it rythmically through to the front foot just as you make impact and begin to follow through.
I/O-Inside/Out: When you begin your backswing, be sure to bring your club back inside of your intended line of flight. A good way to practice inside/out on the range is to place a tee in the ground 5 or 6 inches behind your ball and in line with your target. When you start your backswing, your club should always come back between you and the tee; never hitting the tee or going to the side of the tee farther away from you.
L-Low: When you first start bringing the club back, you should never pick the club up. Keep the club low whenever you start your backswing. I think of it as a pendulum; swing the club straight back until it's far enough away from your body to the point where it lifts itself, just like a pendulum.
S-Setup(Specifically Driver): Cink did an article in a recent GolfDigest guaranteeing 20+ more yards with your driver. His first key to this was a different kind of setup. Unlike the popular setup(Ball teed up in line with your front foot, club head behind the ball just a couple inches), Cink suggests a new way to address the ball. He advises you to tee up your ball just behind your front foot, and to address the ball with your clubhead way back in the middle of your stance right between your feet. I thought this sounded crazy but couldnt resist the advice of someone promising me 20+ more yards and I saw no harm in trying it out on the range. Oddly enough, it works! not only did I get the ball farther, but I fixed a slice I'd recently been struggling with! I recommend this setup to anyone!
So you could be missing any of these tips or others. These are just the usual elements I'm missing when I feel awkward with my swing. Hope I helped you out in some way! Good Luck!
thanks jake yea ill try the club in middle of stance and yes i do tee the ball up on my front foot or inside of my front heel

Hey Jake
Cink sounds like a modification of Moe Norman, I don't know where his ball position was but he set his club down by the back foot so that his first move was lifting the club.
If you have problems with those short putts, try setting the club down 1.5-2inches behind the ball, don't know why but it helps me.
Hope it helps, I only do this for short putts, short putts used to drive me crazy, now they're automatic like they should be. That sounds like a reasonable explanation of why it works.
Be sure to come back and let us know.
I recently switched putters from a full shaft offset to a center shaft so the face is about .25 inches in front of the shaft. So now on the short putts its more like 1 inch back from the ball.
So I decided to try on longer putts, it seems to work just fine, I can't tell any improvement because I haven't had any problems with longer putts. But I guess it is better to have the same setup no matter the length putt.
When we stop having frost and start having dew, I can check to see which way produces a truer roll.
