    Hey All,

    I know the season is starting to wind down, however, I moved to MA and I am struggling to find a good instructor up here that I can get lessons from. Does anyone have any recommendations? Some places I have found are really overpriced. I went to one and all he had me do is hit into a net for two lessons, didn't film, didn't really adjust or guide me in anyway. I want something or someone that helps my whole game, and that I can keep coming back to. Open to any ideas you all might have.

    Have you looked into virtual or online lessons? I have been taking them from John Dochety and he has changed my game and it really works. He does his over zoom and films my swing like I was standing right next to him.

    I'm not up in MA but I suggest checking out local courses (public and private). The pros at the course seem to provide the best lessons. Even if you are not a member at a private club they may still offer lessons to you.

    That’s one thing I was wondering, the private courses around here are obviously a lot better, mostly all restored Donald Ross, is it hard to get lessons if your not a member in general?

    Odds are if they are listed as a Titleist fitter they will make exceptions for lessons. To be listed as a fitter, they take non-members.
    Lessons are a way for the pro to add income. The most exclusive clubs will restrict the pro.

    Skip Guss at Golfrite in Southborough (https://golfrite.com/contact/). Met him at a Titleist Learning Experience two weeks ago. He is one of only 18 authorized Titleist instructors and made everything seem much simpler especially chipping and putting. Ask him about "don't spill the drink". Best golf money I have ever spent.

    I can also vouch for Skip. I attended the TT event this past fall as well and regularly go to the Southborough Golf Center where GolfRite is located. You can also find some of Skip's lessons here on the Titleist site in the Instructions section, including the 'Don't spill the Marguerita drill'. Skip's a short game master!

    I play golf with a PGA professional teaching pro. I use him on occasions to tweak my game when I go south. Most all golf courses have instructors. Agree with SJW PM. Check out the Class A Teaching Professionals at your local courses. Remember there are a lot of Assistants at the courses that are not Class A professionals and may not be good instructors. PGA Master Teaching Professional recommended if you can find one. We have on at the course where I play and he is the best.

    Go on your local PGA website and find a PGA Pro near you. In person, with the right Pro, will get your game started in the right direction. There are alot of good PGA Assistant Pros out there with the ability to connect with students at all levels. There are also PGA Pros who just can't connect with players no matter what certificate is hanging on the wall.. You have to pick one that suits your need.

    I agree with the others that your local PGA Section website is a great place to start. If you find one close you could also see if the offer any clinics or group lessons. This would be a easy way to see if you like the teaching methods of the pro.

    I agree with the others. Look up your local pros online and gather two or three names if you can. Then ask some fellow golfers about experiences with the names you've gathered.

    Piggy backing off of Patrick, does anyone have any recommendations in the Dallas area for a good golf instructor?

    Tons of good ones out there. My personal favorite when I lived in North Richland Hills was Paul Norris. Paul is in Fort Worth and is an assistant to the Texas Wesleyan golf team. He can meet at different locations but usually works out of Hawks Creek Golf Club. Contact him at pnorris@pga.com

    When my wife and I were living in the San Francisco East Bay, I wanted to sign her up for some lessons. I across a package being offered by former LPGA pro Jenny Park-Choi. After 6 lessons, my wife's game improved dramatically. So, much that I signed up for lessons myself and it really made a difference in my game as well. I had taken a few lessons before but the instructors struck me as having a "system" that they wanted me to follow. After taking lessons with Jenny, I started watching the LPGA on tv more often and noticed that the distance of those players was much closer to my own and that their GIR % and save % were much, much better than mine, so I definitely watched the LPGA to improve my own short game. Whenever we go back to see our children, I try to book a refresher lesson with Jenny, well worth the money.

    Most important thing for me is finding an instructor who I gel with. I have taken lessons with "top" instructors in my area - nope...we just did not work well together. Maybe you need more visuals or drills or things explained a different way.

    Yes, you may burn thru a number of lessons/instructors or so - but once you find someone who works well with you - you will get more out of it.

    Ended up finding one I really like. I started early this year working with him and will keep working with him for as long as I can. We both vibe, and and our goals, work ethic are both aligned. On top of the lessons I probably put between 6-8 hours of additional off course intentional practice in now. Not just going to the range and hitting a 100 balls and going home.

    It's also been great as we go through everything and incorporate course strategy, what to do when, what I think in certain scenarios and then what he thinks and going through all of that. Helps see things in a different light. Especially with the goal of being a low single digit handicap.
