Team Titleist, I currently game the T100 P-5 iron and then a T200 4 iron bent weak to gap with the set. After the 4 iron, I alternate between a 3 driving iron and 5 wood depending on the course setup.

Play around a 5 handicap but lately, I have been struggling with consistency in the T200 4 iron. Mostly an issue of strike quality so I lose distance on long par 3s. I typically don't like a hybrid due to the gear effect bringing in a pull left and not sure I want to go to a 7 wood at this point.

Has anyone had experience with this and how did you deal with it?

    Thanks, CD

If you are using the U505 3 iron, maybe just add the U505 4 iron and take the T200 out.

    Your problem? No.

I had issues with my long clubs w/o consistent gaping. It was worth $75 for an evaluation at a Titleist Premiere fitter. Yes, I did end up getting 3 new clubs as a result.I …Problem solved.

    CD,

It honestly may just be down to practice time. We play very similar and I've tested a lot of the same you have. For me personally, I'm consistently better with the shorter shafted utility irons. I have the T100 5-9, then go to U-505 in the 3-4. I've tried hybrids and FW's and always come back to the utility irons. Maybe try the U-505 if you're needing a larger profile to give a bit more confidence.

    Cheers,

    Nick
  5. I bit the bullet on the 7wood in the TSR2 model two years ago and have not looked back. The forgiveness, with the added height just worked better for me than a 4I. I have never met a hybrid that I liked. Similar to you, they always seem to point left to me. When I was fit this past May for T150's, we confirmed the 7 wood should be a staple for me. It's my 195-210 club with a great trajectory. I don't feel like I need to lean on it to hit it high or far. It's a great weapon from the fairway and the rough on par 5's when you just need a great layup club. My set up from driver is 10 degree GT3, 16.5 degree GT3, 21 degree GT2 and then a T200 5 iron into the T150 6 iron.

Get your hands on one to try out, you might be surprised how much you like it. As a 53 year old, I am trying to make smart decisions that make the game easier even though my ego still tells me I should be trying to pure 205 yard 4 irons!

    Cheers,

    Chris

For those that scoff us “old farts” that use lofted fairways and hybrids….. Keep in mind Freddie Couples’ lowest lofted iron is a 7.

Gary Player stated on Golf Channel a few years ago that he would have had a few more Masters wins with a 9 wood.

Lee Trevino told us in 1972 “get ya a 6 wood”

    I carry a TSR1 23 fairway (24.5) and 26H (27). I went back to using a 34H early in the year.

I can hit a 23 hybrid but using a 9 wood is a no brainer.

I put a 24 degree hybrid in my bag several years ago to replace my 4 iron and have never looked back. One of the best decisions I have made in my golf bag set up.
