T150 vs T200 for 12 handicapper

Lofts in the T150 and T200 are very similar (1 degree on most clubs). Realistically, you might see 5 to 10 yards difference between the two models. If too much distance is a concern, you can order T200 1 or 2 degrees weaker in loft. I would steer a 12 handicap towards the T200 90% of the time. Of course, you will want to get a proper fitting to ensure you are fit into the correct shaft.

I'm an 8 HCP and play the T350's. Know another guy that's a scratch and plays the T350's. HCP numbers are just a number for how well you score not always how well you hit your irons. With my old irons I sprayed it all over the place. Shafts were too heavy and heads had no forgiveness. Still was a 10 HCP with old irons just because my short game saved me all the time. I tried the T200's and T350's in my fitting. My misses were so much better with the T350's. I suggest getting the one you can hit the best. I thought I would be fine with the T150 or T200 too. I was wrong. You will adjust for the loft/distance change. Now I know when I'm the old 7 iron distance I will hit a 9 iron. I actually like hitting 175-180 yard 7 irons now. Haha.

Are you just trying them in an open bay at a retail shop? A real fitter will allow you to try a few different shaft options in the T150 which might convince you to go that route over the T200 as they will be more like the AP2 with some added forgiveness. Don't ever let handicap get in the way of club fitting. Too many factors can impact handicap besides how you strike your irons. You decision needs to be based on fitting data (accuracy and trajectory) to get your own optimal results.

The T150 is a different loft than your AP2. The loft is not the actual issue. Your handicap alone is not a factor. Is your handicap because of inconsistent driver, irons, short game, or putting?

Both irons are more forgiving than the AP2. What are the distances and dispersion patterns between your AP2 6 iron and the 2 T series irons? This is where a fitting can help you decide. Do you have the 4 and 5 irons in AP2? Do they have optimal launch and descent angles to hold greens?

A fitter could also consider T150 through 7 iron and recommend T200 for longer irons, in order to find optimal angles and distance. As a possibility. Each of us is different, but every club should perform to optimal conditions. Not just look like the other irons in the bag.

The Titleist sponsored fitters have one job and that is to give the best tool box to score your best. On my own I would have T350 or T400 irons. Found out the turf interaction of the T200 fit my swing best. I might have gotten a couple more yards with the T350, but the dispersion pattern was optimal to hit greens and not green side bunkers. Can’t say enough about trusting a good fitter.

The T150 is not a mistake if that's the club that fits your game. Besides "testing" the T150 and T200, have you worked with a Titleist fitter? A Titleist fitter will be able to guide you towards a set that works best: T150 or T200 or a combination of both. You mentioned the "stronger" lofts of the T200, the T150 also has "stronger" lofts compared to the T100. When you get fit, you can request adjustments to the lofts when you order clubs.

Thanks everyone. This is very helpful, and convinced me to get fitted instead of just trying different clubs with different shafts when there's room on one of the bays at the golf store.

I went back again and felt better with the 150 than the 200 with often comparable or better yardage, but, and this is why I need the fitting, I could not tell what of that was the shaft (PX LZ in 150, AMT black in 200) and what was the club. I'm not categorically against the 350 or 400, but I guess I'm close to it, because the look of them is just so unappealing and different than what I'm used to, having had AP2s since I started playing (especially the 400, just so big. Not bad, just not what a golf club looks like to me I guess).

I tried both when they released and personally ended getting fitted with a set of t150s- absolutely adore them. Similar distance but they are easier to work in my opinion and had the feel. However, I’m not entirely sure there is a wrong choice- getting with a fitter and just going with what is the most comfortable will get you the right set.
If you are concerned on lofts the titleist fitter should tweak it all and get the correct dispersion needed.

I’ve recently went to the 200’s from the 23-150’s (Which I really liked) due to not playing as much and a troubled shoulder. Lack of playing affected consistency. For me, The 150’s require more concentration and precision of strike. Ghez, they felt great.
The 200’s do not require the same precision. They are a touch more clanky but when struck well they feel pretty darn good and the distance is noticeable. This is my hobby and I swap irons often.

Oh and forgot have owned and played every AP2 series and enjoyed each.
To me the AP2’s felt closer to the 150’s but the 200’s hold similar forgiveness as the AP’s.
Actually am already looking to the next 200’s and for Goodness sake hope they figure out and rid the hubcap backplate and the chrome shine..

Yeah it could be that mechanically speaking the 200 is better for me, but that rear bulk was so distracting at address. If I had a better mental game it wouldn't matter I guess. But I was hitting the 150 better.

I am an 8 index and I love my T150's. My miss on the clubhead is usually something on the bottom two grooves. The T150's worked magic for me over the T100's. I did fit into a T200 5 iron. I find this club great off the fairway and the tee, but the bigger sole seems to grab a bit more than the T150's in the morning wet rough. I really need to focus on holding the head open a bit more than I would like. My swing thoughts are kind of on autopilot and I tend to focus visually more on my path than anything else when I am striking it well. In comparison, I don't seem to have the same issue of the T150 grabbing in the rough as much. I think you would benefit greatly if you can get out on the course in grass vs. an indoor hitting bay and see how the T200's react for you vs the T150's. Just my two cents.

I am a 12 handicap and was fitted for a blended set. My 7 iron swing speed is 87-89 range. I go 4,5,6 in a t200 standard lofts and 7,8,9,p in t150 standard lofts. Maintain the ball speed in the window the fitter wanted to see and the peak height is where I wanted it. All irons are a hit and stop into greens. Yes even the 4 iron. Wouldn't change them for anything.
