Gapping

Congratulations on the fitting. That is my dream set of irons. This spring my fitter will probably shatter my dreams, but until then I'm sticking with it.
To answer your question, you benefitted from a fitting for the irons so you should consider a fitting for the top side. Everybody is different so you're gonna get a lot of different stories. Find out what works for your game. Those new irons will be much happier.

Seems in today's golf world it is a mixed bag, all based of fittings and personal choice. At 77, have to find clubs that make it easier for me to make contact and keep it in the fairways.

I think you will find that many folks are very different when it comes to gapping at the top or bottom. The longer the hitter, the more likely they fill gaps at the bottom and the shorter hitters fill the gaps at the top. My suggestion would be for you to set yours up the way you feel more comfortable. I know I have changed mine up differently over the years and probably will again some day.

2. Get them dialed in
3. With your current metal woods, do you have distance gaps? If yes, then -
4. Find a fitter to see if a driving iron, hybrid, or fairway fits your game best.

We are all different. Hybrids were the widest options to fill distances to a 3/5 wood. Now driving irons and high lofted fairways compete. Likewise, would your short game improve if you had more wedges? Don't check the pros' bags, they carry 2-4 wedges after the set PW. A coach/fitter at an outdoor facility can help with that to suit you best.

I think it is so individually dependent. I still have a little over 100 mph driver speed and my longest iron is a 5 iron. Just did an updated fitting for Vokeys and irons and came back with 5-9 T150 and 46, 50, 54D, 58T. This matches my already existing TSR3 4 and 5 hybrids. The 5 hybrid at 200 yds was exactly 12 yds further carry than the 5 iron at 188 yds, so it blended perfectly. The 4 hybrid is about 210 yds and TSR2 16.5 carries 225 off the ground.

So the moral of my story is, I have 2 clubs with 5 on them and 2 clubs that could be considered 4's (16.5 = 4W), yet my gapping is pretty much perfect because I got fit with real golf balls on a Trackman. Why guess when you can measure?

All Titleist products. My set up is matched for my game. As mentioned above I'm sure you will see a lot of deviation on what people carry.

After driver I have the 2+ 14.5 degree with the loft cranked to 16, then TSR2 hybrids at 18 and 21, then to my t200 5 iron through PW followed by 48, 54, 60 degree vokeys.

Do Not Focus on the number or loft on the bottom of the club! Find your yardages with each club and make adjustments. It's about finding even yardage gaps between clubs so you are not stacking yardages on top of each other. Important not to big gaps in yardages... BUT due to the fact a high majority of shots are from under 125 yds in any given round - I'd always prefer to have an extra wedge!

I only carry two wedges a 52 and 58 degree. I find I rarely take a full swing or hit max distance with a wedge. I find if you can dial in your distances at least for me you can do a lot with these and you can open up the 58 and hit high flops too if needed.

Out of habit I have Driver, 16.5* 4 wood, 5 wood and 21* hybrid. Conversely I go 48* 54* and 60* with my wedges.

I go 4 iron, 7 wood, 3 wood. Got T150 4-Gw. Well just ordered a Gw because I couldn’t hit the Vokey 48 the number I needed. 52-56-58. Dad passed and I stamped my 58 from last set so keeping it another year. Still think 58 is as good as a 60 for me far as around the green. Play from whites so bottom end is more important for courses in my area anyway.
