Tensei Blue AV iron shafts

    I have played Tensei Red in my irons but we went through a proper fitting so my "thoughts" would be, the only thing that matters is what feels right for your swing and gets you the result you need. Even if hundreds of people did not like Tensei Blue iron shafts, if they work for one individual, he/she should go with that shaft. I have never really understood the logic in asking for an open opinion to back up a personalized decision. Anyway, hope you either get a proper fitting or find a shaft that best matches your needs.

    I have the Tensei (AV) blue in my T300s. Was fit at the Titleist fitting center at Pinehurst two years ago. These shafts performed better (for me) than the Red (AV) and the AMT Red Steel shaft. At my age (70) these shafts perform well for me and are much easier on the body. Using the Prov1x with these clubs I get the performance I am looking for. If it doesn't feel right, try another shaft. Your fitter will find the right shaft for you.

    Can you explain why the AV Blue AM2 shafts performed better than the AV Red AM2 and AMT Red? Driver swing speed, tempo, etc.

    Red have a lower flex point therefore would “kick” your club head more than the Blue, resulting is a higher overall ball flight. That lower kick point could also lead to less control of side spin.

    I appreciate your comment Dale. I know the best thing would be a proper fitting, but that is not currently an option. I'm currently playing T300 (2021) irons 4-PW with AMT Red shafts in regular flex. Without knowing my swing etc., in your opinion would the Tensei Red or Blue be more appropriate for someone with a low 90s driver swing speed and a smooth transition/tempo.

    Your speed is not as important an issue between Red or Blue as is your flight and accuracy. Red will launch higher but will also tend to flex closer to the head therefore exaggerate the dispersion. Swing speed should tell you more if you need a stiff, regular, or senior flex. Take all those things into consideration and pick which one you think will fit you the best. Good luck and hope it works out for you.

    Also being from WI, there are multiple fitters in your area. We are past the season for the Titleist sponsored fitters, but Mike T in Janesville (used him while was at Beloit) has a full studio for clubs and TPI evaluations. I’m using Jeff at Nevada Bob’s in Madison because he is both a premier fitter and 3 miles from my house. I used the fitters at TPC Wisconsin when it was still Cherokee.
    If you are looking to spend a fair sum for shafts even a $75 fitting fee is reasonable insurance. Swing speed is not a sole determinant. Your release and tempo will determine which shaft will generate the appropriate launch as well.
    The AV Red and the TT AMT vary in no small part due to the graphite shaft being lighter. My irons T200 (2023) with the AV Red give me a better flight. I have a T350 (2021) with the AMT Red. It really only can be used for low punch shots from forested areas. The AV Blue will be too different from the AMT Red steel to say how it would perform for you.

    Thanks for your kind insights. If Mike T is the same individual that was at the Ironworks in Beloit and now Glen Erin in Janesville, I've known him for about 15 years. I may give him a call or drive the 40 minutes to Nevada Bob's in Madison and work will Joel. I currently game the Tensei Blue AV shaft in my driver, 3 wood, and hybrid. Just didn't know if it would perform the same in my irons or if the Red AM2 would be better. Again, many thanks to both you and Dale as I value your opinions.

    BTW, I play Tensei Blue in my driver, fairways, and hybrid and the Tensei Red in my T350 irons. Works for me.

    Hah! Yes, Mike is the same person. I did a TPI evaluation with him at Beloit. Travis Becker, was at Beloit at the same time and did some fittings While Mike has not a fitting for me, I can recommend him from his efforts with TPI and other swing programs. Joel is a great store owner and easy to work with. But Jeff is the skilled fitter and is the Titleist Premier Fitter. Short of Titleist fitting centers I have all the confidence in Jeff. Takes time to go over expectations and works hard for the best result.
    In warmer weather, Jeff will do fittings at Blackhawk. For now, he has his own 2nd story fitting area separate from the first floor demo bays.

    I got fit by Titleist with the Am Red graphite regular in t200/350 heads. Couldn't get use to them. Terrible contact, distance and dispersion. I reshafted with KBS PGI 70 R and they are amazing. I cant believe the difference.
    That shaft was not available at my fitting. They are available on the custom fitting matrix now. Worth a try IMO.

    I did get fit for my T350's but in doors got the Am Red graphite regular now seems like I hit them to high and they ballon up to much.
    I am thinking I need a different shaft with a mid point kick to get a flatter flight maybe the KBS or the fiber steel shafts how do you like the flight with the KBS shafts.

    Love the flight but love the feel even more. The AMT Red were inconsistent for me in distance and dispersion. They had no feel for me. If I hit them just perfect they went fine, but that was hard to do. I had to manufacture a swing. With the KBS PGI 70 my distance control and dispersion were back! You should give them a try.
    The t350’s are interesting though. They go high but don't balloon with the PGI. Too early to tell as its winter here. Most hollow body heads don’t spin enough for me. I’m gaming the t150 8-Gap then the T350 5,6,7. I weakened the 350’s a degree and strengthened the scoring irons.
    I have always had issues with soft tip low kick point shafts. Growing up everyone used Dynamic Gold then I moved to project X. I just play better with a stiffer tip shafts. I would rather try to keep the ball down than try to hit it high.

    Kurt, thanks for the info. sounds like that is the shaft I have been looking for I did have knee replacement surgery and it seems like the better the knee gets the higher the ball is going. It is windy here most days so high is not the best I do try to flight the ball down but just cannot get it down. Thanks again.
