Noticed a difference between ProV1 and ProV1x in putting?

  1. Hello, Everyone.

I'm a new TT member, and I love reading all the discussions on here. Just decided I may add well start putting it some of my own questions out here as well.

Today I was practicing, and I put in some new ProV1x's in the bag instead of thr usual ProV1's (I prefer a harder ball). I noticed that, during putting, the ball seemed to lag a lot more. I use a 2022 Phantom X 5.5. It may be my swing or something, but I wad just wondering if anyone else also noticed a significant difference between the two balls in something as miniscule as putting!?

    Thank you!

There are golfers that do better with feedback based on sound to feel for the distance to putt. A case to use the same ball. In order to check on the stroke there is no data to corroborate if the green putt clicks and on the second the ball provides silence as if a marshmallow.

I find the difference between ProV1, ProV1x, and AVX very noticeable while putting. My reluctance to change from ProV1 to ProV1x was mainly the difference in putting even though I knew I needed to go ProV1x for the height and spin. It took me a couple of months to adjust but over time, I got used to it. The key is sticking to one ball style and not switching back and forth.

Ball feel, like the swing weight of a club, is very player dependent. Some players, myself included, can pick up anything and not really notice much of a difference, while others, like yourself, can be thrown off by any change in feel or sound.

I would bet that your body is sensing the firmer feel through your hands and equates that to a faster movement off the face of the putter. Your brain then compensates by slightly slowing your stroke to mimic the feel it is used to at any given distance.

It can be frustrating for sure, but nothing that can't be dealt with through practice. If you've decided to switch to using the V1x consistently, then I would recommend putting some ladder drills to a tee or coin on the practice green for a while. Hit three putts from 3',6',9',12' (and as far out as you wish to go from there). The goal here is not to make any putts at this point, simply to recalibrate your feel to the new ball from varying distances. Do this from all four angles around the coin or tee so you're exposed to uphill, downhill, and both breaks sidehill. After a few sessions, you should see your feel adapt to the new ball.

If you are this sensitive to ball feel, I would definitely not endorse switch back and forth between firmer and softer balls lest it start to mess with your confidence around the greens.

I think its very noticeable to see a difference in how these balls react to putting and chipping.

ProV1 user. For me noticeable sound / feel difference putting, and chipping, for longer pitching the ProV1x has a little more bite on first bounce. Both great balls IMHO
