  1. I am a 3.5 handicap playing at a parkland coarse in Wales. I have a short swing with fast hand to generate power. should I be using the Prov1 X version? What are the characteristics that favour the X version

Under Balls on the website, the general description is available for each ball.
The Pro-V1 is the gold standard. Unless you need a higher launch with a little more green side spin, then the Pro-V1x would suit you better. Former, but with less spin is the Pro-V1x left dash.

If you can’t find a Titleist ball fitting, then try a sleeve of the X and see if it fits you better. Handicap and swing speed do not determine which ball. Many old golfers like myself need the extra lift of the X off the tee and approach shots.

Pick the ball that gives you the flight characteristics you need, regardless of how you swing. I use ProV1x because I need the max spin I can get on iron shots and hit my irons a bit low so need the extra height and spin to minimize roll out on iron shots. I use less lofted driver to keep the flight down on tee shots to maximize roll out. Works for me. Everyone is different so maybe try multiple balls and pick the one that works best for you.

I played the X for a while and last year I switched back to the ProV1. The X for me spun to much off the driver and long irons. Around the greens it was ok but the mid Irons the spin was to high and it was hard to hold greens as I would spin them off the front. I did like the higher ball flight of the X but the V1 is a much better all around ball for me.

Great question, it becomes more about how the ball performs to your swing vs. your swing itself. For instance the ProV1x will flight higher than the ProV1, also the x will be firmer in feel putting...I would buy a couple sleeves and follow the instructions from Titleist on the ball area of the website to determine which ball is best for you.

    Good Luck!

The ball choice is unique to you. I play the X due to low launch numbers I have. Distance is not a problem for me, but I need a ball that will give me a steeper decent angle into a green so that I can hold them better. I have yet to meet a driver height that is too high for me, and I can always flight it down if needed.

I have played a number of rounds with Dale and while we both use the X; we use it for different reasons but it's the best ball for our respective games.

Don't be afraid to play test the V and X or even Left Dash next time you play. You should be able to see within 9 holes what is better for your game.

I had been playing the Prov1x for years and years until they switched the formula and the x became the 1 and vice versa.

With that said, I have recently been dabbling with other Titleist balls including AVX and Left Dash, and I haven’t been able to tell any difference. Shot nearly identical scores a few days apart with 2 different balls. For me, I think the balls that have lower long game spin are better for be, but beyond that I don’t think it matters all that much. I do play a 60* around the greens most of the time, and had a hard time telling if the ball spun more or less around the greens. Both were fantastic.

Can’t decide if ball outside of low long game spin makes a difference for me. Anyone else have this experience?
  9. I recently switched to the Pro V1X from the V1. Though I loved the feel of the V1, I'm getting more green side spin and control, and higher trajectory with my long irons, woods and driver with the V1X that's been beneficial for my game. Distance with the V1X is relatively the same for me as the V1 for all of my clubs, so no adjustments there.

Both are great golf balls. On course testing is the best way to determine which one is best for your game.
  10. As others mentioned before, there is no shortcut or general rule to the answer. The ball flight (trajectory, height, curvature) has to suite your eyes and your demands. Ideally you can back it up with some numbers from a launch monitor, but crucial is how the ball performs for you on the golf course.
