Pro V1X cover durability

    Has anyone seen any issues the covers on the Pro V1X vs the Pro V1. I played the Pro V1 through the season but have switched back and forth with the X and the covers seem to get nicks, scuffs and wear marks and this is just normal play with occasional sand traps, not counting cart path or tree impacts. The V1’s I have played with have held up very well across 2-3 rounds. I have some wear on my clubs and haven’t hit the new 23 models with any fresh grooves yet. I love the 1x’s but just don’t get the longevity as with the V1 and thought they were supposed to have the same cover.

    Basically the same cover material with different internal layers and dimple sizes. Maybe the larger dimples of the ProV1x create greater edge surfaces against your groves but that difference is so small that I can't believe it would create more surface abrasions. Impact to grass, sand, dirt, trees, etc. on the same cover material would result in no differences. Might just chalk it up to coincidence. BTW, I play 36 to 48 holes with my ProV1x in Phoenix desert conditions and usually take them out of service from color dulling with wear, not cover damage.

    I'm jealous of both warm weather golf and golf ball longevity! Mine seem to get tired of being around me (although sometimes I think they are 'too close to me' after I hit them!).

    I only play the Prov1x so don’t really have the comparison to Prov1, but I don’t see any wear issues (other than when I make solid contact with a Long Leaf pine). As Dale noted above, I can also go more than 18 holes with a Pro v1x.

    The Prov1x has a higher compression rating (makes it feel firmer) but I think that is because of the layers inside the cover.

    I’m a fan of the ProV1x I like the clicky sound off the putter face and I really enjoy the higher flight it produces when hit with all my other clubs.

    You might want to check the faces of your clubs for any sharp edges sticking out especially on your wedges.

    Been playing Pro V1x since they came out. The covers always lasted good for me, only needed to change the ball when I hit a cart path or a tree. Did a full bag fitting last week and the fitter recommended that I should be playing the Pro V1 because of the reduced spin. With that said I will give the Pro V1's a try this year. Don't really understand why they changed the Pro V balls. I played Pro V1's and would always get too much spin on the greens so I switched to the X's. Now it is vice versa, not a big fan of change. Especially since I have been playing with them so long.

    The spin reversal actually happened a few generations ago. The ProV1x has been the high spin ball for quite a while now so if that's what you are comfortable playing, no need to change. There have been pros that have switched over the years too so if the newer ProV1 gives you better results, nothing wrong with making a switch.
