PRO V1 in High Winds

    This weekend while playing in my club senior championship we had consistent winds at 20 - 25 mph. I normally play PRO V1X but changed to the PRO V1 to minimize the spin in the winds. I believe it really made a difference and allowed me to keep it lower with less spin. It was definitely the correct move. I maintained relatively good control of my ball. Also won by two shots.

    I strongly agree with this. Recently I played in high winds and used the 1x and noticed my drives seemed to hit a wall at peak height yet when I use a v1 it just keeps piercing through the sky and carrying more and more. Congrats on the win!!!

    Last Thursday we had consistent winds of 25-30 MPH, with gusts reaching 40+. Our No. 1 hole is a par 5 that normally faces dead into an Northwesternly wind over water. While waiting to tee off we saw ball after ball hit a wall of wind and drop out of the sky barely clearing the water. On a normal day the water hazard is mostly a non-issue. That said, several balls with a more piercing trajectory did much better. It brought home the importance of ball aerodynamics on an extremely windy day.

    I have a suggestion for Titleist: publish a guidance matrix for ball performance in extreme conditions (high winds, high altitude, extremely hot or cold temperatures, high humidity, dry/dessart like conditions, etc.). In other words, assist golfers in selecting the correct ball for any given playing condition. I'd be willing to buy a couple of sleeves of balls on a given day where the conditions are out of the ordinary, or when heading to a different part of the county with known different playing conditions.

    I don’t think they will do that since the ball experts have already said that changing balls due to changing weather is not their recommendation. Just like pro golfers do, use the same ball and adjust clubs, ball position, and swing based on the weather.

    I just got back from Brandon where we got some nasty weather. More rain than any prior trip and higher than normal winds (at least compared to my prior trips). I play the Prov1x and really like the performance in the wind. I find the performance in the wind to be fine. I flight the ball down into the wind and sometimes downwind as well.
    I find the Prov1x responds well to varied trajectories. I don’t’ flight it down in cross winds and it does well.

    I hit my best tee shot on the 14th hole on Pacific Dunes I have ever had on that hole in approx 10 rounds. 140 yards into a 30+ mph wind. Hit a knockdown 8 iron not using a tee. Nice low flight that cut through the wind. That’s a hard green to hit in the wind. Favorite shot from the trip. I have a lower flighted driver shot I go to sometimes. Prov1x works well on that shot also.

    I too usually play the ProV1x but I will switch to the ProV1 when the winds are up. I found the lower flight of the ProV1 works great.

    Great playing!

    Although I have tried the PRO V1 and PRO V1X, I tend to be more consistent with the AVX regardless of the weather conditions.

    First off congratulations!! I have noticed the 1 does great in the wind. When I got fit for a ball they said the 1 was better for me than the X because I generated more side spin with the X, leading to shots that trailed off too much!

    I recently switched from the ProV1x to the ProV1 and have enjoyed the lower ball flight that I get, especially since my courses are typically very windy. My last round of the year on Tuesday was played in 20 - 30 mph winds. Keeping the ball down was a must, and the ProV1 definitely helped my round out with the lower trajectory. I had rotated between the PV1, PV1x, and Srxn throughout the year, but have decided that the ProV1 is going to stay in my bag. I absolutely love the feel and the insane greenside control that I get with the PV1. If anyone is struggling with windy conditions, I'd recommend giving the PV1 a whirl as a way to combat the elements.

    Congrats, and I feel the same about the ProV1. Its why I use it over the X here in windy Chicagoland.

    Congrats on the win! I play the V1 all the time, wind or not this is the ball for me, just get the best results with it.
