I am 5'8" and I play the 910D3 at 44" with aldila rip 70a x flex. Its been my favorite driver I have had to this point.
Thanks for the input, Michael. I've read & heard a lot of good things about the Aldila Rogue shaft too. I currently have the RIP Phenom 60 Stiff in my 913D3, 9.5 degree, and I love it. But, if I can get another 10-20 yards with the combination of the 915D3 & the new Rogue Black 60 Stiff (which seems to be the consensus, so far), it's worth it to me to go with the latest technology. An inch shorter (44") hopefully will make a big difference too.

I'm 5' 10 " and use a 44.5. Seeing your present shaft is at 45 I would first try it a 44.5 then If your not hitting the sweet spot consistently with this length, go to 44.

I play at 44.5"

It seems a lot of better players play with shorter shafts...recall that 20 years ago or so the average driver length was 43"...

Thanks for that info, but I am not shortening a driver I have. I am ordering a new 915D3 @ 44". In talking to the Custom Department, they make the necessary adjustments in the factory to keep the swingweight & overall weight the same as the 45".

Hey Rick,
You know what they say..."No such thing as a stupid question." Since Titleist offers plus or minus up to 2" from their standard length of 45", I'm sure they have stock shafts for a specific length within that range. Therefore, swingweight, overall weight, etc. would already be set in the factory to match their standard 45" specs.
However, if you are shortening a club yourself, you would cut it from the butt (grip end) of the shaft. This will definitely decrease both the overall weight & swingweight, but should not have a significant effect on the stiffness. Then you would need to add weights (offered by Titleist) to get back to the desired swingweight.
Hope this helps,

We would recommend talking to Fred Griffin or Gus Holbrook over at the Villas Grand Cypress - 407.239.1975

I am 5'10" with the same swing speed, I play the 910D3 with Diamana Blue Board 83 X-Stiff at 43.75". I by no means need a heavy or X-Stiff shaft, but it feels great to me so I use it. I consistently hit over 75% of FW's and have no problem moving the ball in both directions. I would highly recommend shortening the shaft to at least 44". My golfing buddy who is the same height as me just shortened his 45.5" driver to 44" and hit 13/14 FW's first round out, normally he is lucky to hit 50%. I'd much rather be 5yds shorter and in the short stuff.
Amen to that, Greg! Keep it in the short grass...hard to make birdies from the trees.
