I am in Arizona playing. I just spent 2 rounds playing behind someone who was eating sunflower seeds and spitting shells on the greens. It is my pet peeve to have to remove shells from my putting line. Please no spitz on the green!

    Hi Bob,

Funny you mentioned it. I just had a round a few days ago and I followed a group of older fellas and the one guy was snacking on pistachios. The shells were everywhere for all 18 holes, including a few greens.

I totally agree -- but then again how many people out there don't repair their ball marks either? Or leave their tees in the ground?

I agree it is rather ignorant of people to spit their seed shells particularly on the greens and tee blocks. Dino has a point that is is a pain when people do not fix their ball marks or divots, but at least to fix them you are not picking up something that was spit onto the ground.
I am not sure how to get people to fix ball marks and divots. I play at a private course where non-members can only play with a member, and we still have those issues. One would think the members would want to help keep their playground in pristine shape. But alas that is not the case. We have signs in the pro shop and members get reminders via e-mail on a weekly basis along with info on current events, but it does not seem to help.
We need a national campaign to convince people to play faster and to fix ball marks and repair divots !

    Hello Folks,

Unfortunately this I think just is a reflection of society today. Nothing more disappoints me as to see people throwing their beer cars and trash in the bushes cause they are too lazy to put them in the garbage can on the next hole.

On the plus side of things, I have seen a couple golf courses handing out ash trays to smokers so they can put their butts off the golf course!!

    Take Care

This is a growing problem in golf. It should be a shaming situation that all golfers in a group that see anyone seed spitting call them on it. Its as bad a dropping a ball out of your pocket. Unacceptable in my eyes and it never seems to affect the group their in, only ALL the groups behind them. Glad you started this thread!
  6. ahh the infamous sunflower bandits by all means enjoy your seeds but please keep them off the greens one day it could be your hole in one or eagle that gets effected by a stray shell
