Good question Steve,
I believe the Surlyn that you are referring to is the outer layer of material that surrounds the golf ball. I was able to do some research and was able to find that Surlyn is a synthetic and highly resilient material that it is very durable in the golf ball industry.
Hope this helps!
Cheers Shawn

Hi Steve, I was reading on the internet for the definition of surlyn and i got this..........
Surlyn ®: A special ionomer copolymer produced by Dupont. It has excellent heatsealability, maximum hot tack and it can be sealed through contaminants, and therefore it is used as a premium heatseal layer for packaging films, especially recommended for high speed packaging machines.
