It's mainly personal preference. Best thing for you to do is buy a sleeve of each ball that you are thinking of playing and go to your local courses chipping green. Practice different shots (chips, pitches, lobs, etc) hitting to holes on different locations on the green and keep track of the results, noting if there is one that you consistently hit closer to the hole. Specs give you the ability to compare products, but robot testing won't be able to tell your personal preferences and how each will feel and perform for you. Personally, I feel the consistency, or quality control, of the Titleist brand is second to none.
Play a round using one brand of ball, then another round using a different one... repeat until you've tried all the brands/models that you wanted to try out. Then just pick the one that performed well in your own "expert" opinion...

I like the Pro-V1 better than the others you mentioned. The Z-Star would be my next choice, but it spins too much off the driver.

I would like to know as to whether or not I will purchase the Pro V1 or the aformentioned competitors. Thanks!!!!!!
You should purchase the Pro V1 and not even think about any other ball. Titleist IS the #1 ball in golf for a reason. The Pros can play whichever ball they chose to, top Am's as well, and they choose to play with a Titleist golf ball...the numbers speak for themselves.

I like Titleist and play a few of their clubs, but all of the top OEMs make great balls. Pros are also paid to play certain product, whether it's a ball or club -- so to say one OEM is better than another because Touring Pros play them is a bit misleading. It's about which ball fits you - Titleist makes a great ball, as do other makers.

Buy a sleeve and test them yourself. I really like the Pro V1, with the 1x coming in second. I hated the Penta, and the hex pattern of the Tour i models is annoying, but the ball feels good. The Z star was pretty good, and Bridgestone makes a decent ball too, but the Pro V is far and away better for my game

In the past several years I have used the Pro V1x, the 330-S, Tour i(z), and the Z-Star and Z-star XV. This year I am going back to the Pro V1x. I have not noticed a great deal of difference between any of them altho I do have to go with a firmer ball as the softer ones spin too much off my wedges. I've decided to go back to the Titleist because, despite my doubts, there seems to be some justification to the claim the Titleists are the "best" golf balls. We'll see how the season goes.

I would play the Pro V1 or V1X, or the Penta (phenomenal ball!).

If I am being impartial I would recommend you go through a ball fitting to determine first what ball characteristics are best for you? Softer feeling or firmer feeling, high spin or low spin etc.? Once you know the ball characteristics that fit you best, try balls from several major makers that fit those characteristics. Narrow it down to your top two or three and then go play a round when the course is not packed and take shots from the same lie with each of your final contestants. The one you do the best with and feel most comfortable with at the end of your test is the one you should use. As for the Pro's... from what I can tell while they can play whatever they like, they tend to play equipment which they are given or which they sponsor. Most of them are good enough to tie an anvil to a broomstick and hit a shotput and still get good results. (OK slight exaggeration here!)

I personally play the Tour i(s). I find it spinning less off of the driver than the Pro V1 and I can shape my shots a little better. Also I get about the same amount of spin around the greens as a Pro V1.

Ok i have tried all the top of the line balls and the RXS really doesnt have a lot of spin. So in the spin groups i have used all you have said and ill be very honest in colder weather i use the Tour i(s) because of the soft feel and carry. In 100+ digrees weather i use the Z-Star because the the thin cover and mantle gives more reaction to the core and in hotter temps the core becomes extreamly soft feeling off every club. And a side note to the Z-star it has the lowest lauch angle, i hit the ball really high so the Z-star in warm weather gives me the most run off woods and most ideal trajectory on irons and wedges. the new Pro V1s in fact actually do preform well in all contitions but if you have a bit of a problem off the tee keeping it down the line i would advoid it. Colder weather it seems to spin more and warmer weather it still has alot of spin.
