Hi David, Last week I was playing the seventh hole, played a 9 iron into the green and landed the ball three feet from pin for a birdie putt. I ended up bogeying the hole after grounding my putter to play my stroke and got peniIlised a stroke for the movement of the ball on the green,it also ruined my round with the only bogey of the day. I myself and other golfers out there are wondering im sure what is the new ruling about movement of the ball on putting greens coming into the new year, and is this rule going to make it better for the game of golf or should they not be changing rules at all ?Agreed the ball shouldn't move at all but with the greens so hard and slick as They are today it is hard for wind not to blow the ball around or move it a few centimeters on the firm surface. The other thing is, is this going to change the result of a major championship or even your local club championship if ur ball moves a little bit. It would be horrible to see someone lose a major if the rule doesn't change. I think this ruling is a good idea and will save golfers alot of hassle of taking a penalty for a little movement of your Titleist.what do u think is the best option? Regards Jack Kerr

    Hi Jack,

Great to hear from you.  Sounds like your game is really coming along.

New rule books are out, and the new rules start January 1.  From January 1 you won't be penalised if your ball moves on the green and you did not do anything intentional to make it move.  I know how you feel- I think anyone who has played in strokeplay events at any level will concur that the ball moving on the putting green by wind or any other effect was the unfairest rule of all and the new rule should help speed  play a little on days where the course has super fast greens.

Stay in touch and let us know how your golf is going.

    Cheers

    Dave
