My 1st Hole In One

I have been playing golf for 17 years and had never had an ace. I've probably clanked 10 off the pin and I've eagled some long fairway shots, but never a hole in one until August 11 2013.

I was playing in a Sunday morning men's association event at my golf club when I hit my first ace. I played the front 9 rather poorly that morning and ironically as we made the turn I told my playing partner I needed a good shot on #10 to get things turned around. #10 on the Robert Trent Jones Sr designed Stonemont Golf Course at Stone Mountain Golf Club is a 169 yard hole from the tees we were playing on the morning of August 11. The flag was +4 and the wind was steady into the shot. Normally I hit a 6 iron on this hole, but due to the wind I decided to play an extra club. I was also thinking that if the wind didn't hold it up that there was plenty of room on the back of the green to go a little long. I hit my Titleist 712 AP1 5 iron with a baby draw into the wind the ball landed 4 yards short of the hole took a little hop and rolled right into the cup! My group went crazy in celebration which was so much fun. I often play golf during the week by myself and I always figured that I would hit my 1st hole in one when I was out there by myself and no one would believe my story. So it was great to celebrate with everyone. My club's head pro went out to 10 after my round and brought me back the flag. We all celebrated in the bar afterwards. My treat of course :-)
